I have a 1994 Grand Cherokee with the V8. It seems like I'm only getting 3 forward gears when I'm in 4-low. How fast should I be able to go? (Obviously I'm only doing this in the sand dunes and not on the street.)
Exactly!I view 4 lo like this = crawl. If I need to go faster than 10mph, I don't need 4 lo
This ^^^I wouldn't drive too fast in 4lo unless you wanna break something.
4lo is for going slow when lots of torque is needed.
I don't use it faster than 15...
I agree with thar. If it feels/sounds like you're going to fast it means you probably are. 15 mph sounds like a good general speed limit to abide by in 4loI wouldn't drive too fast in 4lo unless you wanna break something.

I think this was mentioned before, but I don't think OD is enabled in 4-LO. So that would explain the 3 forward gears. IIRC, my 93 is the same way.It seems like I'm only getting 3 forward gears when I'm in 4-low.
A number of folks seem to be missing this point...(Obviously I'm only doing this in the sand dunes and not on the street.)
x2 for MN mud and snow! Gotta keep them tires turning or your screwed!I've hit the rev limiter in "drive" more than a few times in 4LO in snow, mud, and various hill climbs. Never bothered to look at the speedometer, though. You wheel on the east coast long enough, you start to realize that "going slow" isn't always an option.
