Transmission problems; help!

My vehicle has 181 xxx KM on it and its a 96 Auto ZJ Limited.

I was driving today with moderate throttle while accelerating when I watched my RPM gauge jump from 2000 to 3500 and quickly down to 2000 again.

I was in second, then it went up to that, and then it went into third.

Should I be worried? Is my tranny on the way out? Could it just be my throttle valve adjustment a few weeks back that I screwed up on and can fix by adjusting again?

Thanks for ANY advice!

Mine does that from time to time too when warmed up when I get on it. It has been doing that for about 20,000 miles or so now. I play it mostly to a worn clutch pack band. When your transmission shifts from one clutch pack to the next it will slow the pack slightly with this band to allow easier shifting. If the band is worn you will notice this RPM shot. Doesn't really hurt anything that I've noticed and you can drive on it. If you wanted to you can probably go in and tighten up the band adjustment some and see if that helps.

Well......I'm not too clear at the moment on where to point you if you are really the person that should be adjusting the band on the transmission. Maybe wait for someone else to respond to this post or another option is to add a BIT of Lucas Stop Slip additive to the tranny fluid. From time to time I have added that in portioned amounts and had success for periods of time. Of course the transmission eventually starts slipping again after about 6,000+ miles, but it alleviates the problem for a while it seems.

Hmm alright.

I did use some tranny fix stuff (something you add to the fluid) a while back, maybe its just time for more. It wasnt sliping then though, but Ill check out that stuff.

Well hold on don't jump the gun. My symptom is very similar to yours and mine on occurs intermittently when the vehicle is warmed up and if I am getting on the throttle pretty well like I thought you were describing. Were you trying to pass someone on the highway when it did this?

Not really gonna argue when he said it helped him and I have had numerous examples at my dad shop of it helping customer vehicles with minor transmission slipping problems.
