My sending unit is tapped in by putting a Tee in the rubber line just before it goes into the stock cooler. I had to tap threads into a cap on the tee end to fit the sender, and run a ground line from it to complete the circuit.
Started with a VDO unit, but it was calibrated 120-400 and hardly ever got off the peg. I switched to a Autometer 100-250. My 42RE rarely exceeds 165.

My water temp sticks to 195 almost no matter what, but the engine oil temp varies directly with the amount of load on the engine.

The EGT gauge goes in this summet.

My ZJ interior is beginning to resemble the cockpit of a Cessna.

Pics of N2O panel posted a while ago. I've got pics, not posted, of triple gauge pillar. Working on pods for EGT & fuel/air ratio gauge. (steering column mount.)

Search on Jegs like I said earlier in this thread... Here.... I'm waiting for a ride to go get parts, so I took the time and made a link for you.

I'm going to try and mount the guage in the spot next to the headlight and dash light dimmer switches. It will fit right there if there's not a bunch of junk in the back of the "pod" those switches are in.

I thought about getting the pillar pod thing, but I find the A pillar too big as is.

Hey nate what was the part number for the B&M..,....

I've got the B&M gauge in my '78 Cherokee. I just didn't think it looked right in the ZJ. Autometer runs near the same price. Check www.egauges.com

Don't get the VDO unit. It is marked 120-400, so it hardly gets off the peg.

It looks just fine to me. I really couldn't give a rats a$$ if it doesn't "match" the stock guages. It will tell me what temp the tranny is at and that's what matters. Was fairly cheap and a complete kit.

The auto meter guages I looked at didn't come with the sending units either.

It looks good in my SJ. I like the color coding thing.

When I got my Auto Meter it came with a sending unit. I just used the VDO sending unit, since it was already installed.

i saw a how to article in a car mag somewhere where they spliced in sending units on both the sending and return lines just for shiz and giggles. they just had a switch for the wiring so you could use the same gauge. It was pretty simple-you just had to buy an extra sending unit (obviously it wouldn't work with a mechanical gauge. Summit's got the inline tap-in for about 40 bucks. They're called auto meter trans temp gauge manifold. I'm going to put one in when i install my oil cooler later this summer.

I've been thinking of a trans temp and oil temp guage also

Where can i get a dual pod a pillar mount for a 93 ZJ?

I forgot to take one with everything back together. I started this project around 3 weeks ago, just didn't have a chance to finish it. Boss told me to go home when I got to work... so I had the whole night to work on it :D

Anyway.
Seems to be working fine.

Took a good 9-10 miles or so of highway driveway to get it to read 110*, then it went up to around 130-140* and stayed there. I'll work on a writeup when I have a chance.

There isn't anything in the headlight switch "pod" other than random plastic supports for switches the Jeep didn't come with. Used the hole saw and dremel.
