Is anybody here familiar enough with the security system on a '93 ZJ to tell me how, if possible, to bypass the system? I would like to do away with the security system all together. Is there a circuit that can be grounded, or opened to accomplish this? Thanks.

alarm

I tried to disable the alarm on my 95 zj, There is no one wire that needs to be cut. I did find that more than one thing runs off the same circuit. When you disconnect one alarm wire something else goes out. The only thing that I did not try was trying to disconnect the wire from the door lock switch. The alarm only activates with the lock switch.

I had Alarm problems,, spent around $500 on it to later find that I had wires breaking in the harness between the door and the body. I also have a bad ac evaporator, so I started to tear out the dash and found that under the panel just right of the vehicle info display is a module that I'm sure controls the anti-theft. All I know is that I pulled it out and since there hasn't been anything to hint that the anti theft is doing anything. A check is to disconnect your battery for a bit. When you replace the cables the alarm will go off if the system still works. If no alarm,, it's probably dead. Good luck.

Do a search on "purple & yellow wire" or some variations of that or maybe just "security system" here or on other forums. There are LOTS of writeups on disabling the system.

There is a wire (purple with a yellow trace or vice versa) that can be cut and grounded, usually done inside the driver's door or behind drivers footwell kickpanel.

The fix is to cut the wire and run one side to ground - not sure which side.

Here's one example: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=483020

I'm not real good at putting pics. i can try to tell you where its at on my 94 GC. As your sitting in the passenger seat, remove the dash panels including the glove box compartment.the whole compartment .(a bunch of screws) as your sitting there, (after you remove these panels), you ll see where some relays and fuses are plugged in next to the door. well just to the left of this , i think its like the second box over ,it will say security or something like that on it.START the jeep THEN unplug this box.i let mine run for a minute or so before shutting it off.i have been alarm problem free ever since  and I've run the battery down a couple times since then (with the radio) and locked it up and no problems what so ever.
these guys cut wires and splice stuff and i guess it works for them.but this has been my fix and im very happy with it now  [smilie=bal_cool.gif].I figured out during this process it wont work if the jeep is shut off when you unplug the box.hope this helps and i didn't confuse you to bad.
