I need some help with a project I'm gonna be doing this summer.

I am dropping a chevy 350 small block and a 700r4(trans) into my 95 jeep grand cherokee with a i-6, 42re(trans) and 2wd. i know sounds like fun  . but what i need is a list or something of all the parts(if any) and fabrications that will be needed to do something like this. if anyone has done or heard of someone doing this plz explain to me what you or they had to do to make it work. i know its possible because someone typed on here saying he was at a gathering or something and saw someone with it done. i cant remember who it was and where it is on these forums. but if you can give any kind of feedback plz do so.

thanks

you'll be time and money ahead if you sell it and buy a 5.2 or 5.9. Not to mention easier repairs in the future with factory parts.

Engine swap

Buy a Suburban and be done with it.
You will have a lot of challenges putting the engine into the ZJ.
You will have gauge problems and speedometer problems. The Jeep has only one spot for the trans mount. Will it be near the same spot? Its not like there is a frame and you can relocate it easy.
There is a lot of measuring and and figuring what can go where before turning the key. This isn't plug and play by any means.
The rear end more than likely will have problems from a 350 so its an 8.8 swap there too.
There used to be a lot of kits for engine swaps in CJ's but they retained the jeep trans.
Unless you are good with a torch and a welder you might want to pass on this

This sounds like a nightmare to me! look under your hood as it is with the 4.0. Now go look under the hood of one with a 5.2. There is no room for anything in there! Also fabricating motor and trans mounts on a unibody would be real tough. If gcs had normal frames then you could set the body aside and fit everything in the frame. Set the body a top and if you need clearance then you would a a body lift or something. just too much work for what it is! I agree save up and get a 98 with 5.2 and 4x4

As stated above, it could be done but, why bother when they are available with a V8 already. I have never heard of this on a Grand, but it has been done in a CherokeeXJ. If you really want to do it, anything can be done with enough time and money, lots of both.

I love Chevy Powerplants, and have done many swaps. Unless you are doing this for the love of combining Chevy and Jeep, I wouldn't do it. It will cost you a TON of money, and many custom things will have to be done...Drivelines, motor and tranny mounts, wiring...

I would never try to integrate the electronics/wiring system of a Jeep with anything else. There are wires everywhere for everything. If you are just trying to upgrade from a 4.0, it would be much cheaper, easier, faster, less frustrating...to just search for a 5.9 already installed. If you decide to do it, take pics. It would be an incredible project, but it would consume large quantities of cash and sanity with all the troubles involved.
