What do you mean by a loud bang?

Do you mean that it clunks and the suspension squats when you hold on the brakes? If that is the case then i would assume it to be a bad U-joint.

Second, the 4wheeldrive sensor is simply a prong and roller type that works on the distance that it sits in or out of the socket. That probably doesn't explain it at all well. The main thing with that is 1. Does it stay in 4Lo, or is it just saying its in 4Lo?

If it just says its in 4Lo then its just a sensor or screen malfunction.

If it stays in 4Lo, then its a transfer case or linkage problem. Check the linkage first to start with the simplist solution.

That seems to me like it would have to be an internal transmission problem dealing with the Reverse clutches or the sun gear binding on something. That's wierd.

You said it stalls the engine? If that's right then it seems like it would have to be a problem with the torque converter. Try putting the T case in Neutral and then putting the trans in Reverse. What happens?

Where the hell did that mad face come from?! It was suposed to say neutral. Anyway if you tried that and nothing happend then the problem is after the trans. Try pulling the front drive shaft and see what it does. If it doesn't move then the v-coupling is toast. If it backs up fine then you can rule out the rear end.
