i have a 96 zj and the power steering was out for almost a year. it didnt bother me and i kinda liked it that my gf wasnt strong enough to drive it. but my dad is a nut and it bothered him and took it behind my back and got it fixed. now the power steering is fixed but i have a greater problem. whenever i drive over any uneven surface the jeep skips and surves. and i mean surfaces that wont even faze the worst handling car at all. a mech looked at it and said theres nothing wrong mechincaly and test drove it and found nothing wrong. i wasnt there to tell him that if u drive it on even road its fine. theres certain streches on some highways i always drive that make her jump like crazy. people honk at me cause they think im drunk. this problem started the second the power steering was fixed. my dad changed the steering stabizlier pump and nothing..... its not fun to drive anymore...any ideas?

your control arms are not all the same, or proper length... ?

im going to have someone look at it again real soon. it had to be a used steering box. i know for a fact it wasnt new.

what damage can i do by driving without power steering for a year?

this started happening right after the steering box was replaced...what damage can be done by mistake doing this?

A used steering box that is over 10 years old is probably in need of replacement anyways. With the core charge, you can get a remanufactured steering box from NAPA for like $250. Do like a said, cycle the steering and look for movement. Maybe the bolts holding the box on are not tight? Or the drag link ball joint was damaged during the swap. But my first guess would be the steering gear is worn.
