I know that you have crossed motor mounts off of the list, and I don't think that is my problem. But I thought I would ask. I need to replace my drivers side mount again. How are these things supposed to work, I have always had solid mounts on the Camaro to deal with... It just seems like there is a very thin piece of rubber, and that the mount tears itself apart in the middle after only a few months.

pick up some heavy duty mounts. You'll feel the engine a little more in the cab but they last a lot longer. I have never replaced mine, only because I don't have an engine hoist.

I had a mystery thump in mine when I got it, drivers side, mostly when hitting a bump when turning left. When I did my lift I noticed the upper control arm on the drivers side had been making slight contact with the motor mount directly above it. With all the clearance the lift has given me over the bagged stock springs it doesn't make contact anymore and no more thump.

Well, I haven't had a chance to pull the LCA yet. I pulled the front driveline and it still makes the pop, but not quite as loud. I will try to pull the LCA on Thanksgiving.

Yeah, I know things are going to change. But I have had the 3 inch lift on this since 2001, and the 1 3/4 pucks on top of that since the summer of 2002. I never had a pop like this until this last summer. The jeep actually felt better after the lift. The factory suspension is too soft. It felt better on corners afterward, and I felt safer towing with it.

I know that a lifted vehicle is going to make some new and unique noises, but this is not just a small noise. This is a loud pop and it can't be good. I need to stay on top of this and get it fixed in case it is something that really could be a safety issue.

yeah, I've found I can take turns faster/sharper after my lift. and I'm sitting at 3.5". This pop didn't exist before the lift and not even soon afterwards. This is just a bushing wearing out. It is a loud pop that has consecutively gotten louder and worse. It can't be ignored, and I too, try to keep on top of things with my jeep.

My upper control arm doesn't hit the motor mount. FYI. so its not that.

I'll put in my 2 cents... I had a popping sound coming from my front drivers side. I narrowed it down to turning lock to lock it would do it. It ended up being the track bar mount on the body. It was tight but not tight enough. I really tightened it and the sound was gone.

Your $.02 I like.... Just what I wanted to hear. I'm heading up to Atlanta tommorow (4 1/2 trip). I'll give her a good 'ole oatmeal eatin' large big liftin' lad squeeze, and lets see if that ale's all of my woe's.

BTW, I just started getting a rattle, yeah a rattle in the rear, passenger side. I'm thinking rear trackbar too? I tried to tighten the rear shocks, but, they were already as tight as humanly possible. so.. This rattle's got to go.

I thought I would add another possible place to look.
I had a similar problem with mine. It turned out to be the stock lower control arm bushing at the rear of the driver's side. The bushings had been recently replaced and you can never duplicate the factory pressed in fit. The flange on the outside of the metal casing around the stock rubber bushing is supposed to go on the inside (toward the center of the vehicle) and the driver's side bushings were installed wrong. This allowed the arm to slip off of the bushing and become loose causing a thumping noise every so often. I repositioned the bushings so that the flange was on the inside and this prevents the arm from slipping off, but I need to tack weld the arm to the outside metal casing of the bushings to prevent the bushings from turning in the press fit arms.
I also had a thumping noise from my new Rusty's adjustable front track bar. The bolt size at the track bar to axle mount, needed to be increased to fit snug in Rusty's bushing.
Now that I solved the thumping on my '96 GC, my '98 has just started to thump once in a while.
It never ends!
