okay guys.. i just got 2000 bucks to spend on axles ... What do you guys think i should get? i'm going to be running claytons long arm first gen, and i think the biggest tires i'll ever run will be 35" bfgs mt .. i already have them :) what do you guys recommend me getting .. i just missed a deal of a guy selling his 2006 rubicon axles d44 front and rear 4:11 w/ air lockers for $2000.. Should i have jumped on that?

anyways.. i want to know what you guys think. I built my ZJ for comfortability of getting to the trail, and doing some off roading while i'm there. I probably go off roading 3 or 4 times a year .. and one was to the Jeep jamboree in big bear last year.

thanks guys.. i respect all of your opinions

if i were you, i would act fast, and call that dude who's selling that 44/60 set, and pair that up with a dana 300 pass side drop.
if the pass side drop makes you scurred, then you can probably unload it somewhere for a driver's side drop, and then you still have about ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 1500 left to buy beef jerky!

that sounds like a good deal .. but i just spent money on a 231hd about a year ago, and i'm not into 67" wms, id like to keep the jeep at around 61", i just think it looks goofy if the tires are way out of the wheel well.

thanks

The question I'd ask is do you want to go extreme or contemporary? Obviously the normal swaps for the front are either an HP30, D44, HP44, or some other strong axle. The rear can be upgraded to a D44, D60, Ford 8.8, or Ford 9". There are tons of options. Not to sure what you really have in mind.

i guess i'm going for contemporary... i want to and easy to find/buy, i don't mind fabrication

have you ever tried any of those wonderful southern california junkyards?

i know it's a little bit of a hike, but there's a kickass jeep scrapyard in chula vista called hard rock 4x4.

the website (although seriously outdated) is jeep911.com.

i was never let down by the guy who runs the place, so it might be worth a few hours of driving for ya.

That website is terrible...you cant even click on anything or any of the menus. Wow, terrible haha! Im sure its a good place to get stuff but for someone on the east coast I cant buy what I cant see.

you weren't kidding about the website.. lol.... thats a serious drive for me, for a maybe. what type of gearing to you guys recommend for 35" that will manly be driving on the hwy maybe see off road 5% of the year

Jay4554, have you thought about '07 JK rubicon axles. I got mine from a local Jeep dealership for about 2800.00. Electric lockers and 4.10's. 12 month warranty. The 44a looks tiny compared to the rear '07 axle. The TJ rubicon axles look pathetic compared to these things. Your ABS will hook up too.

HP30 Front/ Ford 8.8" Rear.

HP44 Front/ Ford 9" Rear.

Those too would be the easiest swap. The HP30/8.8 would be easier to swap in but you would have to spend more to get them able to handle bigger tires.

The 44/9" would be more work to swap in but you could leave them stock for 35"s.

okay.. i just bought 05 Rubicon Unlimited d44 front and rear.. will they just bolt up or do i need to modify?

thanks again guys

you guys and gals are awesome

Rock, '05's are TJ axles. Front will bolt in for him. The rear will need fab work.

Holy god I completely read the other post about the 07' JK axles and for whatever reason it got stuck in my head. Yes, I take that back. The front will go right in, the rear the shock tabs and spring perches are in the wrong spots.

Speaking of which, I also have some cash coming to me and was considering Rubi axles. Anybody have a source on some?

Oops, man im full of F-Ups today. TJ is what I want, easier swap, and the air compressor setup also. Ive got some money to play with

Rock,
What other post. I'm the one that planted this seed in your head, so don't hold out on me, link me to it my friend. I was just posting the same idea on the thread that pornstar and few others were fighting it out over different axles, d-44a verses, 35c's verses like ford stuff. If those TJ will go in fairly easily, sign me up, I want that 44-a out of there and while I'm at it I'll do the front for good measure.

So are you saying the front is a bolt in swap basically? How bad would the rear be? You know I've always coveted this swap so don't hold out on me.... Thanks....
