I suspect this issue has been addressed before, and I tried to look for it but the forum's search engine does not allow searches for the terms "BB" or "UC." So I thought I would throw it out here:

I just got a 2002 WJ with the Up Country suspension package, and I would like to add a 2" budget boost. My understanding is that the UC shocks are longer and more robust. Will they allow a 2" BB without upgrading the shocks?

I would especially like to hear from anyone who can speak from experience.

I have the upcountry springs with a 2.5" front 2" rear BB. The stock upcountry shocks still fit after the lift, but they would reach their extension limit very easily making the ride quality pretty crappy. You're definitely going to want extended length shocks if you want a smoother ride.

You might be able to get away with the same shocks if you drove very carefully for a little while. But eventually (even with just street driving), you will overextend them and bend/break something.

I don't have an UC, and never used a BB on my WJ, but I would get new shocks.

Thanks for the feedback - I was starting to wonder if there was any interest in discussing a lift of less than 6 inches. I've seen some mention of what shocks to get with a 2" BB, but again anyone with experience with particular shocks (and where to get them) would be welcome to join in.

I've never owned a WJ but have run BBs on XJs and ZJs with the Up Country suspension and retained the stock U.C. shocks. As stated the shocks will reach their extended limit sooner but so what. The ones on our '98 XJ are still functioning and until just recently I have noticed no difference in dampening. I will replace them in the spring.

If you want the best performance, the bumpstops should be extended the same amount as the lift. Also, the shocks should be able to extend a similar amount beyond the stock length. That said, I doubt that many people go beyond the bumpstops, if that. You should probably hold off because you will be going higher anyway, and then you can get new shocks for your second lift.

Buy my lift

Not sure if you have already purchased what you want, but I have a 2" rusty's spacer kit along with OME shocks that are for 2-4" lifts. This is a brand new set and I would like to get rid of it. I got it and then decided not to use it because my jeep is having mechanical issues.

If interested, lets work out a deal.

PewterDubJ - Not to jump in on someone's else deal, but if you still have these parts for sale, let me know what you are looking to get for them.
