Hello all,

Long story short, my neighbor backed into the ZJ and dented the trunk lid. I've been trying to get the interior panel off to pop the dent out myself but it seems stuck on something or there is some trick to removing it. I have taken out all the visible screws, as well as the two through the carpeting in the lower left and right corners, but still can't completely remove it.

Anyone know what I'm missing?

Their is about 5 or 6 clips holding it on.
I just removed mine to adjust the latch.
Double check all the screws, maybe around 8 of them.
Then use a flat head screw driver and pry out the clips.

Just run your screwdriver inside the pannel starting from the top.
Get it in their and slide it down. When it becomes difecult gently pry it out.
The clips sometimes break. I think their is two on each side and two or three on the bottom. When you get your last one, Hold on to the pannel. It will bonk you in your head.

Mine seems to do this fairly often so I modded the plastic trim piece around the license plate mount to be held on with external screws. Now when the linkage screws up I just take the plastic trim piece off, reach in with my hand and pop the lever open.

I grab the latch throw a kick w side of my foot near plate in dention.... Bom!
