I was wondering if anyone on here has done a 4.0 to 4.7 swap. With only 75K my 4.0 is out the door (crazy aint it?)... but anyways i was thinking instead if just replacing the 4.0, maybe the V8 upgrade would be worth it.. If you have done it or have some valuable info please let me know.. And anyone who can give me a parts list, that would be great too!!

Thanks
Bruce

I have no idea what i did to the 4.0. I know they are good engines, but over the past couple of oil changes its been making metal :( ... About a 1/8 cup full each oil change, and i have been using mobil 1 syn since i got it with 43K on the clock, I gotta keep driving it until i can find me a cheap honda for a DD... so i am just banking on a replacement engine in my near future.... No noises or anything, no misses, runs just as smooth as the day i bought it, a bit of lost power, but nothing to really call considerable.

make sure to check the link i posted. you can use the 4.2 crank/rods and the 4.0 pistons. it will raise compression about 1 full point fromt the 8.8 tho. my suggestion would be to do the same as i. buy a low millage 4.0 (plentyfull for cheap), pull the head and port/polish/gasket match. buy a reground crank and resized rods. if the motor is low millage chances are there is no exsessive cyl wear or damage. you will only have to replace the above. when done, swap em' .if the motor you have now has had metal floating around in it for some time, chances are there will be some level of cylider wall scoring (maybe not?)
imo with the availability of so many cheap low millage 4.0's out the it's not worth doing a total rebuild (ie, bore/pistons ect) unless you want to go all out ofcoarse. then there's the down time. you can also buy a "kit" that will give you a custom piston. i just picked up a 4.0 with 47k from a gc and had it delivered to my shop from half way accross the us. for $550 total complete with fuel inj ect. there is always some level or risk tho. i could find that even with 47k on the clock i need to re-bore and get new pistons. but i'm betting otherwise. i really don't see the need for elaborate cranks, rods, and pistons ect. for a dd. with some head work, more fuel, and cam, the stroker will breach 300hp on stock internals i'm sure. the little 4.0 that could will never really see that high of an rpm and that helps too. good luck
