I'm trying to track down a wierd electrical problem my friend is having with his ZJ. With the stereo on- you hear a "popping" or clicking every second or so, and the stereo gets no reception whatsoever. If you put in a CD, it will play but the popping is still audible.

**WHY IT'S NOT THE STEREO**
When you hear the "popping" the electrical gauge dips slightly. This is verified by my voltmeter, it drops about 1.5volts.

There's a brand new alt. installed, that's not it. If you turn everything (Stereo, heater, defrosters, headlights) and do a load test- even with the new alt. it's only putting out a touch over 10volts.

Any thoughts on where the short could be?
Thanks!

Sounds like a bad ground to me.

Check the battery grounds. Mine were loose, both the terminal, and where the wiring connected, and caused all sorts of problems.
