I have a problem with my 02 Overland. This seems to be completely random when it happens and not very often, but when it does it, it's getting worse.

About 1 year ago every once in a while the doors wouldn't unlock when I opened the drivers door. Then it developed into not turning the dome lights on either. About 6 months ago locks would get very slow in operation when this occured.

Now though, sometimes there is a big pop and the odometer is all fuzzy and the clock resets, the locks don't work etc. It happened to my wife the other day and she couldn't start it until she cycled the locks a couple times (she was just trying random things).

In the last 3 Months I've put in a new heater core, and new engine, but all these things have been going on for a lot longer than that, so I doubt it is something directly related to either of those repairs. Is there a part of the door that can go bad causing a short?

Any help would be appreciated. This vehicle is becoming very frustrating. Out 01 larado with the 4.7 ran 120K with out one major problem. Now this 02 overland with 70K has cost me tons and tons of money and the problems still aren't worked out.

Thanks

Bob

So I ran some erronds before work today and everything was fine until I stopped at the gas station to get an amp energy drink.

I came back out to the Jeep, got it and it was completely dead. The key didn't do anything, the locks didn't work. Then all of a sudden there was a snap, the gauges pegged and returned to normal and I could start the car. The clock was reset again.

This is just bizzar. Could this be a ground problem somewhere?

i had to replace the my main power wire running from the door to under the dash...my door locks, windows, lights anything power on that side wouldn't work...i had to pull the door off in order to get the wire and reconnect...

now when you say "POP" is this an elertical pop or like opening the door kind of pop....on door in between the hindges...there is a little bar or stop to keep your door from opening too far.... mine is broke and eveythime i open the door it pops really loud....check that out....

my jeep today was acting funny the gauges where jumping up and down, and she had no power at times......come to find out my battery cable was loose problem fixed...

this is my .02cents.....just something to toss out there...keep us posted...

The pop was electrical or like a door unlock solenoid pop. Just really loud, it happened while I was driving. Like if you unlocked all the doors at the same time but twice as loud.

Got into the Jeep tonight to go to work and it had no power at all. So I checked out the battery terminals and cleaned both of them up and then I had power. THey didn't look too bad, so I'm not sure if it was coincidence or if that was it.

We'll see if there are more issues. It still seems to do the 'not unlock the other doors when I open the drivers door' thing, so that might be a sensor or contact in the door.

Now there is a wooshing type sound under the dash when the AC is on, so I mught be low on refrigerant which means there is probably a leak somewhere.

I've spent over $6K on this stupid thing in the past 2 months and I did the engine swap myself. So frustrating.

PS - Thanks for the suggestions.

LEMON......just a thought....that really sucks!!!....i take it you have it programed to unlock all doors when you/drivers door exit.?

Yes Programmed to do that.

It's an 02, so it's 5 years old now.

It doesn't fall into lemon territory, 1 cause it's too old and 2 nothing that happened to it has happened after I fixed the problem

1 heater core
1 engine
1 continuing electrical problem that I can't find the cause.

Well, in anycase this has been a help, Thanks.
