I've had this problem for a bit and whatever it is, it's spreading. At first the entire VIC was flashing (picture and all) and would not reset. When the interior lights were turned on manually, it would go blank, then go back to blinking when the lights were turned off. All of the door sensors were removed, other than the passenger rear.

Now the whole center section of the dash electronics are dead. VIC, radio and clock... all blank. So far the overhead readout is illuminated but it's a bit confused (temperature is WAY wrong). Checked fuses and they all look OK. The illuminated entry relay would click when the one door with the remaining sensor was opened. Replaced relay, still clicking. Does NOT click when the engine is running. Turning the dimmer switch down stops it. It seems to be a voltage problem?

I guess what I'm asking is are the 2 problems related (clicking relay and dead electronics)? And what else can I check if the fuses and relays look to be in working order? Could this be a ground wire problem, and is there a single point to check for the whole non-functional dash section? All gauges and stuff behind the steering wheel are operational.

Getting frustrated here....

When I got my ZJ, my dimmer switch was all messed up. At times, all my dash lights, VIC, radio, and overhead would shut off, only with the headlights on though. The switch didn't appear to be damaged at all and it moved normally. I came across one that was "guaranteed" to be working on eBay and I bought it. I installed it and everything works properly now. I didn't replace just the dimmer switch thoug; I replaced every switch that was in that panel (dimmer, fogs light switch, headlight switch) because that's what I bought. If you come across one that's cheap enough or at a JY, pick it up and see if that fixes your problem. I wanna say I only paid like $20 something shipped for mine.

I did tell my boyfriend that ZJ dimmer switches were notorious for going bad, but he was pretty convinced that it was either a fuse or a ground.

Dug around deeper than ever yesterday and finally found the problem. It was one of those little-bitty fuses in the dash that wasn't in all the way and had wiggled around enough to finally blow.

I know what you're gonna say...."you said you checked the fuses", and it's true, we did. But you gotta realize I have a rollcage that comes down right across the fuse panel in the side of the dash. you can get the panel off and look inside, but you can't look straight at the fuses on the left side. My boyfriend was seriously about rip whe whole dash out in an unpleasant manner when he just so happened to be looking at the fuse box one last time at just the right angle to see that one of the little buggers wasn't quite in place.

so, everything is back working, and I'm glad that he'll quit making me try to figure out what was wrong with it, LOL

Cool, at least you figured it out.
