I am looking into purchasing a 97 Grand Cherokee Laredo and it has a Vehicle Information Center in it. When I test drove it I didnt even notice that it wasnt working. Then I later test drove another GC and noticed that it was displaying the date and time and info like that.

Is there any way to fix this vehicle information system? Are they burnt bulbs? Blown fuse? Has anyone else had this problem and have fixed it? Costs? Please let me know because if it is an expensive investment it may effect my decision to purchase the Jeep or not.
Thanks!

Are you sure about that? I test drove a 96 Laredo today and it had it in there. Also, on the 97 Laredo it has the little area that looks like it should be there... all that lights up though is the car profile.... I don't see any service information or date or anything.

alot of the later Larado's come with the VIC display as an option. Even painted side cladding or what ever its called. I dont know if its because im in DC next to the City or what. My sister is in NC and said most of the ZJs down there where 2wd wich I havnt seen up here so it may be more of location.

It will have a dif. peice there if it didnt come with the VIC. Look in the owners manual and it shows the dif. options. If you have the kind with two buttons on the Right side of it that say set and select then you have the one with the VIC and its just not working.
