so this 95 gc that I bought is supposed to have serious transfer case problems... it's making a lot of noise and is supposed to be leaking bad... to me it doesn't seem to be leaking much, but maybe it's low on fluid... the transmission has plenty of fluid/ do the transfer cases get their fluid from the transmission or do I put it in somewhere else?
should i take it to a transmission shop? are there any fluid additives that might help? Should I drive it til it goes out or get one right away?
I also need the front end aligned... If I get that done now will I have to have it done again after I replace the transfer case/cases?
it has full/all time four wheel drive-- quadra something
so I'm wondering...If the front transfer case goes out will the back still get me home and if it will, then how will I actually know when it goes out?

transfer case has its own fluid supply.does not share with transmission. there is a fill hole/nut along the back

a common leak for these is the area between the transfercase and transmission

i think the fluid spec is atf+3 for the transfer

and no you shouldnt have any problems with you getting an alignment before changing a transfer-case

Front & Rear Transfer Cases?

(if the front transfer case goes out, will the back still get me home) Greetings FishDoctor! I hope you are not referring to your front and rear differentials as transfer cases. You will have only one transfer case on your jeep, it is connected to the transmission towards the back of the trans, It does take the same oil as the tranny, BUT not your DIFFS! They take a 80W plus oil and if its a limited slip it requires an additive from the dealer! Hope this helps! Tphoto

As always consult the owners manual or the latest manufacturers specs. Trailer Tow takes 75w 140 synthetic.
