My 98 ZJ has 176,XXX miles on it, trans is original.
The trans seems to shift fine, it shifts into second kind of hard sometimes, but nothing alarming.
The trans fluid isn't quite that nice clear red it should be, it's kind of a clear brown with a tint of red.
I'd imagine the fluid and filter has never been changed(seems like a safe assumption, right?).
I mentioned to a trusted mechanic that I needed to do that, and he said every time he does a fluid/filter change, the trans goes out weeks later. He said he'd do it, but if I'm not having a problem with the trans, he recommends against it.
So... Have you guys with high miled ZJ trans' has good or bad luck with changing the fluid and filter(not flushing, just changing)?
