I finally got around to posting some pics of the WJ. Here it is all cleaned up, begging to get muddy.

It is the snow monster, so I call it the Abominable SnowJeep, or Yeti
Yeti is a name for the abominable snowmonster (Nepal/Tibet).

I learned real quick how much I like the MTRs after towing the boat through a 100 yard section of really deep mud. The boat was a mess. After getting a few feet in, I thought I had made a huge mistake.

Image

Time to take a bath and get cleaned up. This is much better than waiting for hours at the boat ramp to put it in and out.

First time out wheeling it.

I don't dare flex too much, This thing needs some serious trimming before I can discover Moab. 315x75x16's are pretty big tires for the jeep. In front of the rear tire will be OK, but something needs to be done about the rear bumper.

Image

Motivation for visiting friends to lift their Grandy. He is currenlty raising his Gas tank and building a rear bumper. He may end up making many of the parts to do his own long arm kit. You can see the beginnings of the rocksliders he is making. They have been used extensively since he has been running in Moab without a lift.

Image

Not to bad of a cruiser though. I really like the feel of the Long Arm kits. Much smoother than I had anticipated.

They are factory style S bends. I didn't notice anything wrong because I never compared them side to side. On its own, it is actually fine. I sold the ZJ that I built fron the ground up. I bought this one lifted and have done everything else to it. I wonder if the install shop just tossed something they had on there to get by, I doubt it came this way from RK...

I hope you are able to get a starter soon, your poor neglected Jeep is going to be angry with you.

Today was an expensive day: I bought seafoam, oil, oil filter, pre and post Cat oxygen sensors, Fuel Filter, Trans filters, Trans Go shift kit, trans fluid, diff fluid, LSD additive...I have stuff going on until about 3 PM next Saturday, but plan on doing a marathon Jeep day after that is finished.

lol i know right had to replace the already 3 month old battery because it started to corrode from just sitting, got a 98 tj starer in it and repalced a relay so its ready go i think i have narrowed it to the ignition or the relay behind it but we will see but yours is coming along nicely

Parts started coming in this week, and today was the day:

I poured Seafoam into the oil and into a running engine to clean int out a bit (earlier this week), and was ready today for: Oil and Filter, Front and Rear Diff fluid change with LSD additive, New O2's front and rear, New drivers side bump stop, New windshield wipers, removed stock windshield wiper fluid reservior, replaced fog light bulb...Still waiting for the transmission filters and fuel filter to arrive. I will install a TransGo shift kit, new fluid and filters next week before Easter Jeep Safari.

yeah, I am everywhere :)

This is the first Jeep site I joined, I really like the crowd here.

We went down to Moab for some wheeling this weekend. I had to test the flex and trim a bit more the night before we left:

I spoke briefly with the owner of the trailready rig on the way down, he was headed home. We stopped at the same gas station:

We arrived Friday, set up camp, and headed for the hills. We ran Top of the World. I met Moab4Life at the trailhead, and we wheeled with him. He was a great spotter, and it gave me a chance to test a few things out on the Jeep.

I had some issues with the oil pressure gauge, it looks like my sending unit is going out again... I have a clicking that is more pronounced in 4 lo than in high range. I need to chase that down before GSW.

The top third of the trail is where the fun wheeling was at, below that it was fairly tame. The view from up top was great.

We also did some hiking in Arches before heading home today.

Let me know for sure. If you come down to pick it up locally, we could install it here at my place in a couple of hours on a Saturday morning.

I was sporting it all over Moab. I get more comments about this hoodie than any other item of clothing I own, it is a good conversation piece.

damn im jealous man i so wanted to hit up moab :( but there is always this summer and next year ;) if i ever get this damn zj to stay running we will have to hit up some trails
You MUST get it done before June, Grand Slam West in Moab. This will be my first year, and I think it is going to become an annual thing for me.

I did a bit of wheeling today, I need to trim a bit more for sure... I may move my front axle back about 1/2 inch as well to help with this, I have plenty of room and haven't even hammered my pinch seams over.

Need to trim:

Now'' thats a ''BA'' Jeep Grand Cherokee, Nice Work Will''
I wish my GC looked that good''

looking really good! I still think white wheels on this would look sweet!

I moved the axle back about 1/2 inch this weekend. I couldn't go any further back as I turned the joints all the way into the arms. Even without hammering the pinch seams over, I have an inch of clearance. I will have to go flex it out again to see how much I have to trim. With other lift kits, you may be able to adjust the arms back further. But these RK arms are pretty long even on the shortest adjustment.

Wheres a good place to buy helm joints for the front
track bar, I think I wanta change out these Teraflex's
My lower control arms are ajusted just like yours''
just nip a little off, on the thread side to shorten it ?

Summit Racing should have them.

I have thought of trimming a bit off of the arm, I plan on flexing it out again this weekend, then making my final body trimming. If i have to cut some of of the arm, that will be the next step. I will not cut more than an inch off.

Well, the wheel is straight in that pic. With the tire turned driver a bit more, it will require about 1 inch of trimming.

It was a busy day with the Jeep. I pulled the tranny pan (always a mess) and removed both the filters. I haven't changed the fluid since I bought the WJ with 84K on it, it now has 118K. I was happy to see that there was very little metal on the magnet.

I dropped the valve body and went to install the Transgo Reprogramming Kit.

Image

Overall, installing the kit was fairly easy. But when I got to the #2 springs...

 the inner spring was in multiple pieces. Luckily that is one of the springs that gets replaced with the transgo kit, because not all of them do.

Image

After the trans was back together (I laid the gasket on the pan and pushed all of the bolts through the gasket. All but 2 stayed in place. I read that another user did this, great idea. It keeps the gasket spaced right, and really helps you re-install the pan quickly.

It shifts much better, quicker at full throttle. I didn't install the resistor to up the line pressure though as I will likely be getting a programmer in the next few days.

After that I moved onto the oil sending unit. It was acting funny again in Moab during EJS. I installed a new Mopar unit just over a year ago. I can't believe it was bad already. Sure enough, the electric plug was full of oil so the unit must be bad. I cleaned the connector with brake parts cleaner and ear swabs, put another new Mopar unit it, and plugged it back in.

Next I pulled out the grinder and the mini sledge. I trimmed about 1inch more off of the bumper and hammered on the metal underneath. It is raining like crazy again, so I will have to wait to go flex and see if I trimmed enough.

#234 ·
Nice you caught that broken spring, I just changed my trans filters thursday and the transfer case fluid yesterday all I have left now is the front axle fluid waiting on the new cover.

Transgo Reprogramming Kit what's this do?

#235 ·
Firms up some of the shifts. The one I was worried about was 1-2. It made a big difference at full throttle, and should help when towing a trailer. As it shifts a little bit faster, there should be less wear on the clutches and less heat in the fluid. As I will be using a programmer though, I didn't up the link pressure with the resister supplied with the kit.

Well, the trimming is done! I ran a few lines to see how it felt disconnected, and everything clears (barely).

It was time for a few more ponies:

I think the front driveshaft needs to be completely rebuild, maybe a new double cardan. It chewed through u-joints in no time at all, these u-joints are brand new.
