:crazy Its just driving me Crazy.

Please Help.

I am trying to replace the steering stabilization shock. I can remove the bolt connected to the frame. I have removed the nut from the connection on the streering rod. But, I can not remove the bolt from the steering rod.

Do you just bang it out with a hammer or twist it off?

Anyone do this before?

Thanks

Dan

Many people have done this and hated it. It's really a PITA without a pitman arm puller. First I soaked it in PB Blaster for 2 weeks, and then I spent 4-5 hours grinding it down, hammering, and trying to pop it out with a pickle fork set before going to Autozone. I rented the puller (just put down a deposit- rental is free) and had it out in 3 minutes. Don't get the TRE puller; get the pitman arm puller- it works perfectly.

Thanks! I will give it a try tomorrow.

I have been under my truck for over an hour today lubricating and then cursing at the gosh darn thing.

Thanks for replying so quickly.

When putting my new RS5000 stabalizer on with my new lift, we just cut my old one in half. Simple enough

I tried using a picklefork by hand to get it off and it didnt work. I then tried air tools and the pickle fork and that didnt work. In the end i wound up cutting the bottom of teh bolt off and using an air chissel to knock the rest of it out.

GL dude..It was a Biatch!!!

I been there too...
I tried for hours to wrench that sucker off, and I just gave up..
So like a week later I went to a garage that my friend owns and he put her up on the lift, and stuck a pickle fork between the draglink and the stabalizer and we had a blast banging on it for about an hour until the thing flew off

when i live in louisiana i stopped by the stealership and asked them about removing it for me (since i didn't have a shop or even a garage while in college) and they told me half an hour labor. let me tell you, the guy that worked on it was pissed b/c he had to get a torch out, cut the old one off, then blast the remains out.... i was laughing my ass off the whole time... hehe.

Drop the Steering (takes me 2 minutes). Set the shock on the inside of a big vise and with either side of the connection hole supported by the vise jaws. Now beat the holy living dogpoo out of it until it pops out (usually one or two smacks with the 15 pound equalizer, 30 seconds of work) reinstall and enjoy....

That project is done, on to the next.

Hey all its done!

I went with  ATL ZJ  suggestion and went to auto zone to rent a pitman arm puller ( I couldn't believe they don't charge you anything, but they didn't charge me a cent ). When I got back under my truck it took less then ten minutes of slowly twisting the unit until the pin came out like a bullet. It scared the hell out of me when it released. Put the new dampener in and have found my steering system to be much stiffer now.

However it did not cure all my problems. So, I am going to post another Topic on the dreaded Death Wobble.

Thanks for the stories and laughs.
