Rusty's is a really really difficult kit to put together with the cross member. That is all i have to say since i installed it over the weekend. The crossmember with the reinforcement brackets that sandwich the frame are nearly impossible to get right on the first try. This makes for a some what "is that gonna work" senario. I like the price for it and it does seem to be a good buy with all the things it comes with. Just do yourself a favor and have atleast 3 days to knock it out. It took me, jerry, and another friend about 8 hours to just get the rear control arm mounts installed and then another 5 hours the next to fab up how to get the crossmember to work I'll have to post some pics to see what else should be done.

time for an attention grabber?

RUSTY!
I AM VERY INTERESTED IN YOUR KIT. I WANT TO SEE MORE PICTURES OF IT INSTALLED. WHAT DO YOUR HIGH CLEARANCE ARMS LOOK LIKE? PLEASE POST MORE INFO!

anyone have an email for rusty's offroad?

they have several thousand pictures on the website. The high clearance arms have an offsetting bend in them. When I talked to rusty about them he said "you would do better with the standard kit, you get into clearance issues with aftermarket skids and exhaust when you deal with the high clearance." I asked him why he made them then...."I made them because someone else has a set and said they were the only ones that could make them....."

I'll take some pics for you.

The problem Andy and I were having was with the front pieces that go over top of the crossmember. It seems as though Rusty's says to install the longer piece going forawrd, but everyone installs it going to the back. It's hard to explain, so here are some pictures showing what I'm talking aboot.

Soo, which is correct? The way Rusty's says to do it, or the way people actually do it? Also, the crossmember is too wide, and probably will need shims. Anybody else hit this problem?

If I got this kit I'd do it the way everone actually does it and not the way Rustys says to do it. Haha, thats really weird, maybe they need to come with some new directions.

i wish i was looking at longarm kits.... :???:

The kit is a good kit in my opinion. I had a few issues when i was done, but i called rusty's and they were able to help out very quickly. First was the instructions and the way the support bracket mounts. Either way will basically do the same thing. The next was the rear sway bar being that the instructions say to install the sway bar extension brackets but apparently the new design to the kit has eliminated the need for these and you won't notice the sway bar on or off. I'm going to put mine back on when i fab up some extensions. The last thing was the JKS disconnects bumping into the steering arm coming down from the pitman arm. When turning right it runs into the quick disconnect so you have to bend the bracket up. Kevin's seems to have an extension bracket that you weld on to move the sway bar links up further so they don't interfere with steering. Hopefully i'll have pics up tomorrow for everyone. Just so we are clear, i invested atleast 23hours into putting the kit on, not getting it set right, just putting it on the vehicle. There are a lot of "custom fabrication" stages to this kit and i will be doing some welding to reinforce it more for my own sense of security. Let you all see it tomorrow.

It makes sense since the "frame" to the front of mount dips down, causing the mount not to sit flush. However, towards the front is a thicker section of frame, that i would rather bolt to. It's a toss up, both should work.

i hear rustys lifts are stiff. i'd go claytons, i've heard more good about theirs products. just my $.02
