is thw box that actually bolts onto the TB that restrictive? because i made an intake for my jeep w/ a cone K&N and some piping, and it retains that box. i noticed a little more power at higher RPMs and didnt really notice a noise. i suppose that if the box is very restrictive i could make an FIPK style intake with a breather tube for the crankcase. any input appreciated.

Well, you're obviously talking about the 4.7, but when I installed my K&N (4.0 style) I left that box in place for a couple of reasons: 1) I didn't have to fab something to attach to the t/b - as this needs to be a fairly "air tight" connection, i would always be concerned that a homemade t/b attachment would not be adequate... and 2) I didn't have to relocate the breather tube.

So, if your t/b attachment is anything like the ones on the 4.0, I can tell you that its not very restrictive. I looked at mine very closely before deciding to leave it in place. it appears to have a lot of unnecessary bulk, but inside its just a smooth 90 degree elbow. Why they made it look like a square box, I'll never know!

That box between the throttle body and filter is a resonator that works like a muffler to quiet things down. Inside, it's not restrictive (IMHO). I took mine apart just to see what's inside when I replaced it with a Warpspeed tube and Powerstack filter. The stock filter and the flexy tube feeding into the resonator is another story.

I think you have a good compromise with your version. Extra oomph and no intake roar. Plus the connection to the Crankcase Ventilation system is still connected to the original box (right?). Since the stock resonator box is made of non-metallic materials, it also won't absorb engine heat like some of the metal tubes do.

Good job. How about a pic?

right the tube still connects to the box. i will try to get a pic tomorrow. i do like it. it has inproved top end power, and the roar isnt that noticeable. i kinda wish it made more noise, but i do like it. the magnaflow that im gonna get put on soon (probably saturday) will have a nice noticable growl :pant:
