yeah, WJ parts are hard to find, and since the economic thing is going south, I expect more than a few manufacturers will discontinue what they got for the WJ... but I have a WJ! and I want to do sum stuff, so I'm trying to research as much as pos. before I buy. I don't have tools or time to build, but I am watching another thread on this awesome bumper being built, it looks great. but again, he has time and tooling. My main concern is weight. I built a '91 YJ and it's awesome, but it weighs more than my F-150 right now! I have to do something about all the steel and tuffy boxes and crap that I have welded in and bolted on. I understand the 'bulletproof' concept very well, most of my wheeling is rock crawlin' out in JV, Stoddard Wells, Panamints and Calico... but I am wondering why I have such beefy steel bolted onto the stamped steel plates of the frame, w/ 1/2 " bolts! it's completely over built, and too heavy.
and yeah, I have researched those weights, steel bumper w/tube stinger, it's a lot of steel and then you powder coat it and bolt a winch to it... and then put on a sythetic line to save weight right?
hey I'm not saying a heavy steel bumper is wrong, I have 'em on my YJ and bash them all the time, but my WJ is a DD and I like to go 80+ mph because I can... I don't want to turn it into a brick.
