don't get a cat back kit.... they really do rape you for your money with those... if you want a gibson muffler then go to e-bay, fine one, and have a muffler shop install it and it will be 100-150 cheaper. But don't kid yourself... just get the flowmaster 40 because you are going ot want loud exaust after a while. haha I have a dynomax on there and I want a louder one now to.... If you really want performance exaust get a cat and a muffler from kolak and have a shop make you new pipes. The key with finding a good shop is ask around. All of the trucks with trick exaust that live around me took a 40 minute drive to this gheto corner-of-nowhere shop in a bad part of town.... Yea there are like a hundered places that are alot closer but alot of people recomeneded this shop. I went there for my muffler and it turns out they have really great prices and they did an A+ job. I love gheto shops! ;)

What ghetto shop are you talking about? I have a cracked ehaust manifold on my 4.0 and after the holidays I am getting a complete exhaust from Kolak headers and all, and I need to find a good shop.

Any recommendations in the North Bay? I am in Napa but it is worth it for me to drive.

there is a shop in walnut creek called mel and sons... to do my cat back exaust I needed pipes from the muffler back and a new tip as well as install. I supplied the muffler and they charged me 80 bucks. Oppss. they are in Concord...1790 Monument Blvd, Concord, ca. (925) 825 9700. Although I am sure there has to be a good exaust shop closer to you than that. Perhaps oakland or maybe even closer... I might try the yellow pages and call a few shops and ask for prices.

Thanks, I am actually in Concord quite a bit, I am going to talk with the guys ar the local shop here also and see. I was thinking about $100 or so. I am going to supply everything except a little bit of pipe, so maybe a case a beer and get them to weld it all up for me.

I was looking for something I could do myself... I saw carsound cats on ebay for like $47 shipped....then I saw the gibson cat back for $198 ..so for like $250 I could do the cat and back.. I'm in NY...these guys around here gave me a price of $100 just for a tailpipe and I do the rest....AAHH..maybe I'll just get the carsound cat off ebay and a flowmaster muffler and reuse my tailpipe... I do everything I can myself.. I hate getting robbed...

if you want to do it yourself then you might have to do this:

Since the lengths of the pipes between the downpipe/cat/muffler/tailpipe are going to be different unless you get a new cat/muffler that are the exact same size as the stock parts.... let me start over. Grab a 6' section of pipe that is your stock diameter from summitracing.com. Its like 8 bucks I think. Grab exaust clamps from Napa for like 80 cents each. And then throw the new muffler and cat under the jeep, fill the gabs between the cat/muffler/tail pipe with sections of the 6' pipe (that you will have to chop up with a saw) and then throw clamps on it.

I'm exausted so if this doesn't make sence, PM me and I will explain it again (but next time it WILL make sence)

I get what your saying...... better off just getting the dam thing done...suck it up and pay whatever.... check this out----- I looked into dual exhaust a while ago.. they wanted to put the tailpipes under the axel... tailpipes only for 250..... anyway.. maybe I'll buy the cat and mufler and have the shop weld it up and do a tailpipe.. what size is that downpipe into the cat.....
