I want to raise the mounting position of the front track bar at the axle end so it is above the OEM bracket. I was wondering if anyone has done this. Is there an off-the-shelf bracket available? Does it require a steering assy modification? And custom fab'd solutions out there? Just looking for ideas. I have a feeling this will be a custom job.

This will eliminate track bar binding and shorten the track bar length a bit. Right now, my RE trackbar is at max adjustment. The top bracket can't be dropped any further.

Thanks

I was thinking about the same thing the other day, 'cause I'm exploring different steering setups...Apparently, the TB and draglink (attached at the knuckle) need to be parallel...

So, I was looking and it appears that the tracbar could be mounted where the factory steering stabilizer is and it would be pretty dang close (if the draglink was attached to the upper end (lower stock) of the knuckle)...the problem is where to mount the SS? Well, perhaps it could be attached where the factory TB is (axle)...then, where does the other end attach...I'm sure something could be done...

Anyway, that's just something I was tossin' around...don't know if it'll help in this case...?

I have been thinking along the same lines. I think the TB can be angled a bit without affecting axle positioning and articulation, but how far? I have seen the top mount on an XJ pushed forward about 2" to accomodate a brace. It didn't seem to affect anything.

I keep thinking that I saw an example of a bracket on the i-net. It may have been someone's prototype... It has been a while.

Linda-
I saw the exact thing you are describing. I just can't remember where I saw it. It may have been a shot of a RK kit or Skyjacker.

ProComp makes a relocation bracket that fits in the OEM bracket so the lower track bar mount is just moved toward the center a little more, not upward.

I haven't seen the Sky Jacker part, but I suspect it is the same. Anyone out there have a SJ relocation bracket installed?

The Skyjacker, on also move the bar down and over..

Linda, try Dynatrac, they have a kit now that moves the tie rod over the knuckles and also moves the trackbar atop the old mount.

You are probably going to get some bumpsteer out of that setup, unless you also do something with your steering angles cause it will be out of parallel with the draglink, but might not be too major..

A Mod I saw the other day on an XJ involved this..

Used tapered knuckle inserts (www.goferitoffroad.com), which reverse the taper in the steering knuckles, allowing the tie rods to be inserted from the top..

a draglink from a right hand drive XJ...(ball joints are pointed the right way for the reverse mounting)

relocation of the trackbar....

overall the entire thing can be done for about $200 and moves the steering up over 3"..

might not be a bad way to go on a budget..

Thanks Mike! The XJ plan sounds interesting and worth investigating. I know a lot of extreme XJers. I am sure one of them will either have this setup or know where to get more information.

Linda, Yeah here is the breadown on pricing.

Goferit offroad knuckle inserts...2@$28.00 each
Factory replacement draglink with tie rods for right hand drive....$100 (from dealer)
bracket for trackbar....not sure....just fab one.....

thats it...

Hey Mike, a while back you mentioned that you were ordering the XTV Engneerind D30 hy-steer arms. Did you end up getting them? I've been trying to contact them for months with no luck. I recently heard from a couple people that said XTV went out of business. Do you have any leads on places that may have this item in stock?

Sorry for budding in on your post Linda  I'm exploring several options right now for my steering and trackbar relocation also. This XTV kit was nice! I saw one up close on a friends TJ and it is beefy.
