Im trying to find out what vehicles I should be looking at for a donor 9" that will be the correct width for our ZJ. I already know about the Ford Granada.

I understand that Lincoln Cont. rear disk brakes will bolt up the the 9". What years apply and is it the only vehicle that has rear disc which will work? Did the LC have a 9" the correct width?

Thanks

So what exactly is the width of the ZJ rear axle? Where do you make the measurement from? And what do you do about the bolt pattern for the wheels? Are any of them 5 on 4.5" pattern?

I believe the stock axles are 58-59" not really a drastic difference.
You measure the width from wms-wms = wheel mounting surface ( where the wheel sits against the drum/rotor) The only ford rears I belive with 5x4.5 are explorer, ranger,BII. Most of all the cars are 5x5. Your best bet would be to get a early bronco rear for the correct width and best option for bolt pattern 5x5.5. This pattern is very common and easy to find rims for new or used.
As for adapting to the 5x4.5 pattern you don't. If your going to put in a strong rear end why would you keep the weak front end.

Does anyone have an exact measurement of the Aluminum Dana 44 wms to wms? And the measurement of the Dana 35? Are they the same?

Will a 77-81 Versailles 58.50 inches with disc brakes work with the ZJ? I understand it has 31 spline and the super heavy duty 3.25" housing.

I doubt that you'll find a versailles rear ANYWHERE for less than $6-700. They are a bolt in swap for mustangs, and are very very very popular. If you find one for less than that, buy it and put it on e-bay, then go find another 31 spline 9" for your jeep. I can get 9" axles all day long for $100 complete, sometimes with 31 splines. Just about everything ford made with a v8 from the 60s-1979 had a 9" rear in it.
