Anybody running a 3 or 4 foot firestick atennae off their taillight? Ive seen a few Jeeps running some type of bracket that mounts above there taillight. Just wondering where I might be able to buy this bracket or fab. one for that matter?

I've seen ones that screw into the sheetmetal just inside the rear hatch edge. Nothing more than just a little bent sheetmetal, really.

Go to your local welding shop and have them fab one for you i got one made like 4 or more years ago and love it i even had a 9 foot whip installed on it

The guys are right, there are several different types of firestick mounts you can use depending on the year of your jeep and where your going to put the antenna. Try to get at least 2/3 of your antenna above the roof line

Does wiring it directly to the battery make a big difference?
I tapped mine into a wire coming through the firewall, seems to work ok for me...

What matters is using right gauge wire. Wiring straight to the battery, using an inline fuse of course, is likely to avoid the usual voltage drop that happens when using wire that's too small a gauge that runs all over the place before getting to the radio. Gauge matters on both the positive and the negative ground. Measure the voltage where you intend to tap for the +12v. Then measure directly at the battery terminals. If there's a difference you may want to run direct. For high-drain devices like a radio it's even more important.
