a 94 XJ just rolled into my local junkyard. it clears 32's and the front springs are red. i measured them and under the vehicle they are 14" tall. i am looking to lift my 93 grand cherokee as much as i can on the short arms, also i have a broken spring in front so that has to be fixed anyway. my plan is to get replacement stock front coils and do the F>R swap then buy springs for the front, unless these XJ coils are lift springs and will work. thanks

did some measuring and the front springs of my ZJ (318) measure about 11", also i discovered not only is my front right spring broke, it isn't even sitting on the mount anymore it actually is starting to fall down around it. anyway, the back measures about 8". so i figure i can get some front replacements and stick them in the back and get 3" roughly and these front XJ coils that measured 14" should get me 2-3". my only question is how are the XJ coils going to ride in my ZJ, are they going to be too soft for my V8 or will they just sit a little lower?

Putting new front ZJ coils in the rear is going to give you a very still ride. Front coils are stiffer so they can hold up the weight of the engine, moving them to the back they would not sag near as much. I bet in the rear you would end up with around 4". Also the XJ coils are rated for a L6 not the V8 so there is another weight difference. With that in mind you would most likely only end up with 1.5"-2" up front.

When I swapped my front > rear with 115,000 on them I got 3.5" of lift in the rear

I believe the XJ coils will be a hair too soft for the V8 you may only be looking at about 2" of lift. Unloaded my old ZJ front springs were appx 18.5", I have the V8 also. I imagine it was about 12" weighed down... With those soft springs from the XJ, while going around curves it may pitch and roll a little more.

ok so how about used front springs from a I6 ZJ in the back, will they be any different or are all ZJ springs rated for V8? i figured i can use spacers in front to even things up unless the XJ springs are going to be too soft and ride really bad. i know its kinda debated everywhere but what all has to be done besides springs and shocks when lifting up to 4" i know its not definate just looking for opinions on what kind of problems i will run into.

Well, There are different rates for the 2 engines, You can do the front springs in the rear and get some 3" springs for the front for well under $150. And when going up to like 4" of lift the least recommendations are usually longer lower control arms all around, front adj. track bar(or bracket-->not the best), The brake lines are ok at that height the rear track bar is ok but could use a bracket or adj. bar, An alignment is a def. And you will REALLY want to look into a steering dampner it will really help bumpsteer among other things...D.W.... The OME (SD40 I believe) is suppose to be the best on the market if not then one of the best. I would like to say that is all that is NECESSARY but you may want more and others may recommend more. I hope this helps...

I have put some used XJ coils in the rear of my rig and its lifted about 2.5-3". And its holding up an 80Ltr gas tank as well as the petrol tank, tools etc etc.

They are noticeably stiffer than the standard rear coils which is nice.
