well went wheeling today at a buddies for a few hours.the jeep was running fine as usual. pretty much all easy stuff very minor water and few rocks little bit of mud. then time to try the new hill he cleared, well i became the tester .tried climbing it about 10 times and in the process i met the rev limiter a few times(ok it was hitting it a bunch) anyhow the jeep ran fine for about 30 minutes after that.then came time to park for lunch, i shut it off ,after lunch,, no start it cranks fine but thats it.the strange thing is after repeated tries of cranking the horn will sound a couple times (ive had the damn security problems with this one too).i tried starting fluid and it hit and ran off of that for about 2 seconds.now it wont even do that.i know on some of the fuel injected vehicles if you dont get gas they wont fire or if they dont fire they wont get gas.so where the hell would i start looking? this is my first jeep i like my 5.2 but im slowly starting to get very disappointed.

well after a bunch of looking and digging ive decided the fuel pump is out.but the only question i have is will they go out like that?im mean you shut the key off then no start after that?the relays working etc but no fuel. there is no engine light on.

How do you know there is no fuel? Check at the valve on the fuel rail. And unless it is running, you aren't going to know if the check engine light is on, or if it is throwing codes...I would still try to read your codes.

rocks and also hill climbs means jarring and bumping which = end of fuel pump most likely. have a buddy sit in it and turn the key on while you listen underneath by the gas tank. should hear it running. also i've seen fuses blow during high rev hill climbs.

How much gas was in it, it's not a good idea to do steep hill climbs below a 1/4 tank, gas cools the pump, starve the pump and it overheats. You may get away with it a couple of times but each time it overheats it damages the pump, cumulative.
You need to check pressure first and go from there.

i tried a couple different things the fuel rail was the first there was no pressure there.then i went to the back behind the filter and again nuthing there.the pump actually made noise but it never pumped gas up.
the codes probably wont do me much good i havent been able to get it started and i changed the battery it sat dead for a couple days.

thanks guys

How much fuel is in it now? The pickup on my dad's rig migrated up on its mounts so that it was far enough off the bottom of the tank that it would run out at 1/4tank. The pump is off centered to the left, if this is the problem and you jack uo the right side enough you might get some fuel to it.

well you know how it goes anytime you mess with a gas tank usually they are full hehe mines got about 3/4 in it.just my luck i filled it up for the new years day wheelin.lol

Like the others said its probably your fuel pump but I would take the spark plugs off first and have a look. Might be some evidence on there that could help you out.
