First time poster, long time jeeper. I need to replace the output shaft bushing (maybe also referred to as the extension housing bushing) on a fully functional 249 t-case with over 295k km/183k miles on the clock ?. Since there's no binding from the VC and it's a later case with proper 50/50 lock in low range I might as well keep this thing under the jeep until it dies and I have reason to replace it with a 231 or 242.

My FSM indicates I need to remove this bushing with a special tool, referred to as "remover 6957". Anyone replaced one of these before? I don't want to shell out a fortune for the special bushing remover but it looks like I can probably just remove the extension housing and drive the bushing out then press a new one in, replace the seal and maybe drive it for another 180k.

Anyone with advice care to chime in? I realize that most people swap this problematic t-case early on, but I'm sure someone out there has replaced this bushing in their time.
