I have a '04 Freedom Edition, with a 4.0 & Select Trac with 218K on it. Yesterday I was driving down the road with a big cloud behind me. Pulled over, and could see tranny fluid dripping down between the motor and transmission. I assume when I drive, the fluid gets on the exhaust and I get a smoke screen.

Any ideas on where it might be leaking from? I have not crawled underneath it yet, but I am hoping I don't need a new transmission due to a input seal or something. Prefer it to be a transmission line leak or a pan gasket.

Hoping to get some insight on where to look or if this might be a common issue?
Thanks in advance

Well, I crawled underneath, and it looks to be the rear main seal and/or the rear of the oil pan, which is a bit frustrating since I just had a shop replace the oil pan (due to the plug nut weld breaking) and do the rear main seal while there. I guess I will be calling them on Monday morning......

Took it in, and the service center found the FelPro pan gasket split right at the rear where the pan covers the RMS.
Should get it back later in the week. I have never seen that gasket split.
So that's good.....
