I have a 1996 Grand Cherokee and I cranked it up on Christmas Eve and the VIC or the information display, whatever it is, didn't come on. after driving about thirty minutes it came back on and I reset the time and it went back out. It kept going off and on for about an hour. When I got home I undid the battery, took the VIC out and sprayed some keyboard compressed air stuff in the vents off the unit to get the dust out, thinking hopefully it would work after that. I plugged it back up, reconnected my battery. drove around and it kept going in and out. Now, a couple of days later, it wont come on anymore at all. i also just noticed tonight that my faceplate where my 4 wheel drive handle is that lights up at night and shows the 4 wheel drive options, isn't lighting up anymore. about 4 months ago the VIC started saying it was in part time 4WD when it really wasn't. I figured that was just the 4WD selector switch going bad. I also had my headlight switch have a short in it about a 100k miles ago and it was causing the interior lighting for night driving to go in and out, so I replaced it and it works fine now. Will the same be true for the VIC? is the 4wd lights not coming on related to the VIC going out? What about the VIC saying I'm in part time 4WD when I'm not. Any help with any of this would really be appreciated. This is my first car and my parents want me to get rid of it because all these small problems, even though there only cosmetic. I love my jeep and don't want to get rid of it so please help me figure out whats wrong with it before they make me sell it.
