I have heard of the 6 inline 4.6 long stroker, is it as powerful as I hear? I have a 94 Grand Cherokee with a Inline 6, 4.0 150,000 miles and time for a fix. Is there such an engine and where can I go to get specs?

I'm not sure how much power it gives either, but if you go to kevins jeep page, and go to teck article, it tell how to, and techs on it.

My engine is a stroker. It has almost 75k on it now no problems.

I bought my ZJ from the dealer with 25 miles on it and I can tell you the difference between the 4.0 and 4.6 are substantial.

To this day I can spin my 36 inch swampers with 10 psi in them on dry pavement. And my motor is getting a little tired compared to it's old glory.

I will say this. I used up my AW4 in a hurry after the new motor went in. wasn't even 20k until I had to but a new tranny in.

I would compare it to a stock 318 but the I6 has WAY better low end.

I will run the 4.6 or 4.7 again without hesitation. Unless I swap in a 4bt.

I have a tired 4L in my 1993 Grand. I am just about finished swapping in a 4.7L Stroker from a 1998 Grand. Although I will still have to do the exhaust, headers, Thottle Body and stuff I will let you know the performance difference tonight. I am really excited right now. Just waiting for a buddy to show up with a tractor to lift the old one out and drop the new one in.

what makes a 4.6 have more low end than a 5.2 or 5.9?
Engine geometry, specifically the long stroke.

The 5.2, and 5.9 have 3.31, and 3.58 inch strokes, respectively. The 4.2l crank comonly used to make a 4.0 into a 4.5l has a 3.895" stroke.

A long stroke engine fills the cylinders with air very efficiently at low rpm, more air=more torque. A long duration cam helps as well.

The opposite is true too, a long stroke engine isn't as efficient at cylinder filling at high rpm, so the low end torque comes at the expense of high end horsepower. Which shouldn't make any difference in an offroad engine.
