Just purchased a 4.0 96 GC 103K mi and took it to the dealer for an alignment and keyless programing. Also had them check for an oil leak that I thought might be coming from around the distributor or oil filter adaptor. They told me I had oil leaking from the head gasket. I have had head gaskets go bad before with other cars but not like this. The GC runs fine no coolent loss or smoke. I just power washed it and wiped it down and will try see where its leaking. They couldn't do the alignment because of of a worn track bar. Anyone on the list have any problems with the head gasket leaking oil on the right side? Also I priced the track bar at $115 from a internet dealer. Is it worth it or should I go aftermarket. I have searched the archives and could find no mention of oil leaking from the head gasket but a lot of posts about the iol filter adaptor.
Thanks in advance

I just bought mine too. The original owner (lady) was GREAT!!!! Anyways, she told it need a qt every 1500 miles. I was cool with it as the suburban had needed it every 800 miles
Well, after looking at the valve cover, the bolts (all) came off with my fingers  So, I tighten them back down (real tight) and so far I have gone 800 miles NO OIL LOSS! Check yours.

Its lower than the valve cover. I just got back from a highway run and it looks as if it is the oil is seaping from the gasket starting aroung the #3 cly. Not much just a very small trace, but I only drove about 6 miles.

Hummm. Maybe the oil is dripping? Did you try to tighten the valve cover to rule it out? Only takes 5min.

You might try the intake manifold gaskets. They can leak around that area.

The dealer did confirm this. Although, they said $400-$500 to fix. Maybe do a leak down test?
