I have done the search and read the recent threads, but I havent seen anything that really suites my situation. I am looking for an upgrade for my stock 150K worn steering. I was initially thinking of just a HD Tie Rod and Link, but have seen many different options like WJ conversion, High steer, and most recently a different type of steer system that eliminated the Y setup...
I'm simply looking for something simple, reliable, STRONG, and of course cost effective. Any advise would be appreicited.. also where you guys have gotten yours?

Give Currie a call. I have their HD drag link / tie rod with the driver side flipped over to the top. You will need a bushing from goferit offroad and some sway bar bracket mods but I am very happy with the results. Very stout.

mcracco, do you have any pics? Prices? What type of ends did you use? Im very interested in doing a similar set up with the goferit flip without doing an entire system like Rustys for $500+. Thanks

I actually was looking very seriously at the Currie setup, but decided to go with just a beefy rod, link, and ends. For the size tires and amound I take the ZJ offroad they will be pleanty strong I feel.
I am however going to get their steering setup for my YJ come birthday time

Ryan,
Don't buy any steering components from Rusty. Unless there's been some sort of dramatic improvement, you're just throwing money away.

steering

I just replaced my entire front steering system with OEM parts. $180 bucks later the Jeep drives like a dream again. BTW if you want a stronger drag link assembly you can swap in the draglinks from a v-8 jeep of the same year as yours. The v8 draglinks are solid instead of hollow.

What all did you replace for $180? I need to do the same and am interested in a parts list to get everything ordered.

Thanks...

steering

hey man the currie steering is awsome. i set the entire steering on a rock and it held up great. theres no mods you need to do to install it and you can get the tierods from a parts store when it comes to replaceing them. for the price its very heavy duty.

steering

hey man its worth 400 bucks if its gonna get you off the trail in one piece. better than trying to limp it home on a bent tie rod or draglink. phuk that sucks. done that too many times.

Grand94Jeep... GOOD SUGGESTION...
I picked up new ends etc with a HD Tie Rod (Big Daddy $69) and the whole thing only cost me around $150....If its warm enough this weekend I'll hopefully have a little less slop in the steering....

Do you mean the goferit offroad thats outta NC? I've wheeled with that guy, he's one of the best drivers I've ever seen.

Simply changing the steering angles will make your bumpsteer even worse. The trackbar and drag link must stay paralell to each other (and have similar lengths) to eliminate bumpsteer.
My point exactly, the Currie setup although very strong does not address the angles made by the factory y setup to match track bar angle after lifting a grand. I have a Kevins front TB conversion so bumpsteer is better...but still not as good as it can be without modifying the steering. I would not want to spend 400+ on a kit that will be harder to break and not solve my sterring issues. once again just my 2 cents.

The Currie HD Steering Kit is list at 399... not 400+. If you shop around you can get it for less. I cant give out all my secrets. I have been running it for the last 4 months and it is a beefy kit with everything you need to replace, TR ends, TR, Draglink, and mounting bracket for a SS. Agreed that it is just an oversized stock setup, but a flip can be done for cheap and get high steer out of it. Also, I almost purchased the PSC TR, but didnt like how difficult it was gonna be for making adjustments, b/c of the same thread on each end. I can get some pics tomorrow if you want. Shoot me a PM.

Quick Question...
There are two Inner and Two outer rod ends in a ZJ setup?

I like the inverted T design. Although everyone view's Rusty's as poorly built, I think he was on the right track - just needed a little more beef.

BTW, I have run his setup for a couple of years with no issues yet. In fact, I have yet to replace the tie rod ends on it. But I understand that my experience must be the exception rather than the norm. And I'm still only running 31's... Larger tires probably wear the relatively smallish tie rod ends out more quickly.

Anyway, if someone could design that type of system with more beef (especially in the tie-rod end area), I think it would be a really popular mod for jeepers (Kevin, are you listening?)...

Make it with a larger DOM tubing, use adjusting sleeves (much easier, and you won't get charged more at the alignment shop for an alignment because there are no adjusting sleeves) instead of threads with jam nuts, and find a better way to mount the steering stabilizer.

The biggest benefit to having Rusty's type system, is that I've never had to take the jeep to be re-aligned after lift modifications. I simply adjust my steering wheel, and away I go...

Sorry so late getting back to you.
I replaced both drag links, and both pitman arms. Also put in a new steering stabilizer. I used a combinataion of Advance and Autozone parts.
