7" Rock Krawler: What else will I need?

If I in fact get the 7" Rock Krawler lift, the only things that Rock Krawler says I need extra are the following:

CV shaft conversion and possibly control arm bracket skid plate.

Now, my question to all you GC experts out there is: Am I going to need anything else? Such as T-case drop kit, slip yoke elimnator.. etc.

If so, where do I get such items, and how much are they gonna run me?

First thing your gonna need is a lift that is not a POS.

Search more on that Topic. I just installed a RK lift and it is a POS. My homebrew setup it twice the suspension that thing is.

Clayton's Offroad makes a better looking "kit" and it garners much better reviews. Rubicon express is making a Long arm Kit for the ZJ now. They have always made decent stuff in the past.

IMO the RK kits requires much more work than they let you in on. But then again maybe the kit I installed is the exception and not the rule.

CV upgrade is your SYE

JMO and Snotty attitude I am sure someone else will be nicer.

at 7" I would recommend a roll cage and/or full widths.

So what you guys are tellin' me is that the Rock Krawler suspensions for the ZJ aren't all they could be? Hmm.. I've got a buddy with a TJ who's got a Rock Krawler setup in his and it seemed to install great.. but that might just be cause it's a TJ..

So you suggest going with Rubicon Express, which is a good suggestion.. but their biggest lift a 4.5", the best being the long arm.. does that actually equal out to 4.5" or does it end up bigger.. or smaller for that matter?

So back to the original topic, what else will I need if I get the RE kit, other than what comes in the kit? Just the SYE CV deal?

You don't NEED a SYE, but if you do much wheelin you'll want one.

I was at nearly 8" of lift and still ran stock driveshafts and short arms. It didn't ride that well and I was really pushing it wiht my rear driveshaft.

You could run the RE 4.5" long arm kit w/ a set of 1-2" spacers, or you could go the better route and piece together a kit.

Clayton's arms
6" national springs
JKS disconnects
Bilstein 5100 shocks
Bar Pin eliminators/shock conversions
OME stabalizer
ORGS/JKS front/rear adjustable tracbars

that would be a pretty good start I think

Actually he would not need the rear trackbar if he got the triangle version of claytons kit.

IMO that is what I would do. Or have RE delete the springs from thier kit and get some around 6".

Claytons. Just read around. Youll find only a handful of people have no complaints about the RK. Actually I think you only find a handful of people who dont hate their RK; but they still have complaints about them. Only complaints Ive seen about Claytons, is the price. And its really not a huge difference at all. If your spending that much cash, do it right.

and if he goes 4-link then hes going to be welding ona truss, so he should go ahead and upgrade the axle to a D44 or 8.8 so your only welding once. Then he'll have bigger tires so hell need to regear. And since your regearing, might as well throw in some lockers. Well hell, your putting lockers and gears in, might as well upgrade the front axle too. Shoot, need a new transfer case cause youve got the 249? Oh, now you should get an SYE? Oh, cant get that without a new driveshaft? yeah.... add another 3-4gs to the list.

I happen to love my RK kit. I have had it on for a little over a year and a half. I try to wheel every to every other weekend and I use it as my daily driver. If properly installed the kit should work great. As far as the drive line goes I ran my stock driveline for a while until I could afford a new one. I had no problems I juswt rebuilt the old one and use it as a spare.

Go with the RK, I have the 4.0" SA Flex kit on mine, and I love it. Ride is smooth and off-road is great. The guys at RK are willing to answer any questions and all of the parts are high quality.

I have the RK 8" kit for the WJ and also have no complaints. Easy install with a great ride. I'm sure Clayton and RE have fine products also.
