like the topic says? i think i have much crud inside the tubes. i cleaned the diff 3 days ago and its dirty again. whats the best way to clean out the tubes?

I believe when i did my CV joints i had so much sand in there that i just took off my shirt, wrapped it around the old cv shaft and plunged it in the axel. Clean as it was going to get.

damn , i couldnt get the pass hub nut off. even after jacking it up and putting a breaker bar on ti and letting the jack down on the bar. it just held the jeep up while the jack wasnt even touching it. :spank:

I saw a good write up about replacing the seals and cleaning out all of the gunk in the axle tubes on www.madxj.com

You could probably go with their method, and then use your T-Shirt. You know, save you a little crud to wear home

I think it is in the article on upgrading to 297 U joints.

Look under tech, then axles.

thanks man, im still trying to get the pass side axle nut off. i have been for 2 days. i even put the breaker bar on the nut and let the weight of the truck down on it but it just held up the truck from the wrench!!!!

i think i need an impact gun.

piece of pvc pipe taped or wedged on the end of a shop vac...scrape the insides of the axle tube w/ the pipe while vacuuming.

whats up with that bender? Hehe... You are talking about the size 30m or so nut right? hmm, that is strange. Me and Jim removed those on both of our cars without TOO much of a fight, still took a hefty breaker bar though.

but the weight of that car on it? Thats still.....1000+ pounds!!
they arent reverse threaded right? If worse comes to worse, try some PB Spray, you dont want something happenening to that nut while it is on there, like stripping the edges off. Then you will be Toast for getting it off!

It's 36mm! C'mon know everyone should know that!

My buddy back in Maine had a 93 Ford Escort that the axle nuts froze up on. I mean, first it was the small break bar, broke that and the socket. Then the impact, nope. Finally a 1" drive break bar with a 5 foot pipe. It was funny as hell because I was actually lifting the car with it, but finally it came undone!
