Hi guys,

Is the throttle body spacer worth it on a 4.7v8 WJ? Can you notice it in your seat-of-the-pants dyno? Does it improve fuel economy at all?

It made a little improvement on my prev XJ 4.0L and the spacer was cheap so I didn't mind giving it a go. The spacer for the WJ is a bit more $$ (esp to get it to me in Aust as well) so was wondering I'd ask before buying.

Thanks

I've never heard a lot of good things from those spacers. For some engines (like the I6 4.0) I think it helps a little bit but it's not worth the cost.
But if you are looking for something bolt-on that will help open the 4.7 up a bit go to this website:

It's a polished and bored out 4.7L throttle body that helps the engine breath better. May be more expensive then you'd like but I know that will definitely add some punch!

Thanks Jeep boy, I'll check it out.

Interesting to see that the 4.7's had diff throttle body sizes from 2000-2003, I never knew that..!

Read your comment about "fast man throttle bodies". Am interested but noticed you didn't mention having that item on your car???
Thanks, Richard

I have not tried it on mine yet but I will be soon, maybe in the next couple weeks. I get my knowledge from articles I've read of folks who have tried it themselves and got good results. I'll be sure to post the results of me actually installing it.

Judging by that Throttle bodies page just get a TB from a 2001+ 4.7 and you'll get all the benefit that his will give you.
Agreed!

If you install a stock 2001 TB then you will get the same intake efficiency as a as a 2000 TB from Fastman.
You can get a larger bore by installing one of his 2001 TBs that have been bored to 71mm. However he doesn't recommend it as it showed minimal gains.

So if you have a 2000 4.7L then just install a 2001 throttle body
If you have a 2001+ 4.7 then the throttle body is already the optimal bore
