I just bought a 2010 Unlimited Rubicon and built it for offroading with the intention of selling my built XJ and built ZJ. I bought the XJ already built, so I don't have any labor into it, but I built the ZJ from stock to what you see in my sig and can't bring myself to sell it. So far no serious interest in the XJ. It has an hp30 w/ARB locker with 488 gears and the rear is an 8.8 w/detroit locker with 488 gears. Both axles have chromolly axle shafts. My ZJ has 488 gears, Ox-locker in the front hp30 and a lockrite in the rear 8.8. Both axles have stock shafts. I'm going to swap the axle shafts between the two. As long as I have the rear differentials apart (because of the c-clips), is it worth the effort to pull the carriers apart, swap ring gears and end up with the Detroit in the ZJ?? Is the Detroit a lot stronger than the Lockrite? I'd probably have to get a spreader for that job.

The end result would be my ZJ would have alloy axles with a Detroit locker in the rear 8.8 and the Ox-locker in the front hp30 to which I will add C gussets. The XJ will have the lockrite in the rear and still have the ARB in the front with stock shafts, but I will lower the price about $1500 to attract more interest. Again,, is the Detroit worth the effort??

You can't just swap the carriers without doing a gear setup (pinion depth and backlash, etc..) Figure in labor charges if you're not going to do the job yourself.

Oh, the detroit is much stronger than the lockrite.
