Floor Jack Storage

Hi,

I'm new to this group. I am searching for a way to store my 2.5 ton floor jack in my ZJ. Currently, it is rolling around in my cargo area. I don't want to bolt anything to the floor because I have a Husky cargo liner. I have tried industrial strength Velcro. But, the adhesive peeled away from the cargo liner when the outside temperature dropped. I was thinking about making a rack for it out of angle iron, to keep it from rolling around. I could strap it down, but I am looking for a way to keep it looking clean. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions. As it stands, the ZJ is stock.

I have all my tools and stuff tied down with bungie cords. Keeps them from moving around at least.

You could always use a rivet to hold a strip or two of velcro in place to the liner. In the old ZJ I used two strips of 2" double sided velcro, riveted to the trunk pan to hold my jack in place.

On a side note... Has anyone noticed the ad's at the top of the screen?

"Endoscopic Face Lift" - "Thigh Lift" < WTF??? LOL!

Not so much ads as they are links... To the far left there's an "Ads By Google" link, to the right there are 5 links to various websites. Usually it's 4x related stuff... Maybe I need to pony up some dough to get rid of them, LOL!

I only carry a bottle jack. Less weight and less room taken up.

When going on an off road trip, there are always extra tools on board. But for the day to day street driving, the bottle jack is great.

just kidding;)

really though, why the floor jack, my same question. it's place is in the garage for sure but on the road? as mentioned, a bottle jack works great which i carry in all my vehicles (even the factory scissors jack can be quite effective). a highlift jack also is very handy as long as the vehicle has proper points to attach IE steel bumpers and rockers. i don't think i could jack my GC with one.

I started carrying the floor jack in my XJ, with a 3” lift, because the bottle jack would not lift high enough. Also, I have had issues with bottle jacks, so I choose to carry a floor jack. Back when I was driving my XJ, I thought about purchasing a high lift. However, now with my stock ZJ, a high lift would be overdoing it. Besides, I have chosen to store tools under one of the rear seats and an amp under the other. I do plan on purchasing a high lift jack when I buy front and rear bumpers and a nice lift. I plan to build my ZJ similar to my XJ. The 4.0 in my XJ finally died at 224,000 miles.

i have a highlift mounted on the roof and a floor jack under my rear seat... i cut the fiberglass on the bottom of the seat to make room for each wheel on the bottom of the floor jack and it fits in there nicely.. even if you jump up and down you dont feel the wheels the cushion is pretty thick

a block of wood will take care of that little problem. i have used bottle jacks for years and have had no issues. i just would never carry a big-arsed floor jack, seems rediculous to me but hey..............different strokes for different folks:D

i have blocks of wood too these are very handy.... i have had to many bottlenecks bend on me so i dont like them for any SUV or Jeep anything other then a car really

FWIW I carry a floor jack with me all the time on the trails. People laughed at first, but I was the one laughing when they needed a floor jack. I've used it more times than I remember. I also recall a number of people saying "Wow, that was nice to have on the trails". A floor jack is much safer than a hi lift or bottle jack. I've seen both kick out from underneath even when used properly.

Of course a floor jack doesn't work too well in the middle of a rock garden or big mud pit. But it's awesome to have when doing repairs on the main trail.

Yeah, off road is a different story. It is good to have a variety of tools in the group. But when it comes to the dd, a bottle jack should be fine. Get the extra weight out of there.

I carry a bottle jack and a hi-lift. A floor jack is nice, but it's pretty heavy and takes up lots of space. I've never found a situation where we couldn't get the job done with a bottle jack and/or a hi-lift.
