what is the most common axle swap i tried to do a search on it and nothing. i know that alot of people are doing a 8.8 in the rear but what are people doing i'm thinking of doing a hp44 and a 9" rear. looking to run 35-36 tire

8.8 is very common because the bolt pattern matches the existing pattern (5x4.5) and it's a decent axle. If you plan to replace both axles then just about any swap will be the same amount of work. You will need new axle brackets for just about any swap. With the proposed axles you will need new wheels as well.

I"ve run hp44 and 9 in an older ZJ, and a hp44 and 60 in my current. the hp44 will be ok with upgraded shafts for up to 35's, but I don't consider it much of an upgrade vs. the 30.

If 35's are your goal, I would run the stock 30 with alloy shafts/joints, and a rear 31 spline 8.8.

Where would anyone reccommend getting the rear axle brackets for the 8.8 swap? Any companys that someone has experience with? Because this is on my wish list and I am eying up an 8.8 at the jy along with a hp30. Thanks in advance

To play devils ad. for a minute. I used to run an XJ44 rear (read almost identical to an 8.8) and never had problems up to 35's. So the 8.8 is a great choice. However, I swapped over to a 9inch becuase the removable 3rd is awesome. We destroyed a 3rd in Moab last year and we were able to get it off the trail with some creative 3rd member swapping. Plus we now have a spare third we take on long trips such as to Moab. Leave it in the room or at camp and just run out and grab it if needed.

For brackets, I like Clayton's offroad. Not sure if he makes the rear upper mounts though...
