The reason the factory decided on a certain weight of gear lube is due to many factors. Some of these include space available for the lube to flow through in the gears, the added weight of the lube on the turning parts resulting in a loss of available HP and Torque to the wheels due to the added loss of turning the heavier oil, and also the weather conditions that this vehicle may see in which the gear oil needs to be able to flow properly to prevent metal to metal contact. I understand what you are saying, but its not a great idea unless you have a specific need for it.
