OK I have a 96zj with 4.0 I just had a new fan belt installed and it squeels like crazy when it's dam and on first start up. It was installed at a garage. Any ideas as to wht this may be? also when it's sqeeling bad the alt charge is low.....

The belt is slipping. Make sure your tensioner is in good shape and fastened down correctly and that the right size belt has been installed.

Or it could be a bearing going bad in the alternator and providing resistance against the belt.

Have you tried a little salt?

or a bad idler pulley... mine went bad as soon as I put in a new belt as well.. weird i know. but normally your first pulley's to go will be your alternator/idler. I bet your spring was compressed too much when they installed the new belt... You probably need a new belt tensioner.

My 1998 4.0 doesn't have a spring tensioner, it's a manual mechanical adjustmet to the idler position via a long bolt under the power steering pump. Give the belt a little more tension and see if that helps.

Thaks for all the replys guys, I do have the self adjuster if that helps any... How do I check to see if the alt or idaler(sp) pully needs replaced?? also what did you mean by salt test?

Sometimes a little moisture will make the belt slip and squeal. Pouring a little salt on the belt as she's running will dessicate it.
