What's the hot ticket for bump stops or do I just need more lift? Maybe wheel spacers? 3" coils and 1.5" spacer with 32-11.5-15 tires utilizing a 3" bump stop extension and front still rubs in big flexing conditions. Took a hammer to the inside of the wells as much as I could. What's the trick?

You rub

The problem may be in your wheel backspacing. I know mine would rub with 12.5" wide tires even with the 4.5" lift I have now. 31x10.5" clear fine no matter how much flex. (I'm not running any bump stops whatsoever).

Thanks Chris, why did you go to 31's? I want at least 33's for the type of offroadin I do. If I could control the compressed travel better they should work without rubbing.

rubbing

I have 33x1250x15 on mine and rubs a little under max flex, but i have no bump stops period. Been like that for almost 6 months now and i wheel it at least 3 times a month...Where are you rubbing? I also agree on it being your back spacing. Mine are 3.75 i think i will double check tomorrow.

i agree with chris..... i run the same size tire with 5.5" lift... clears perfect in allmost every direction.

Just a question

I'm wondering why 33's. The height difference is minimal. If it is just for the width you can also get 31's in a 12.5" width and I think some manufacturers make wider still.

The "air down" footprint is also about the same respectively.

For semi aggressive offroading 31's should be just fine, If you want to do some serious crawlin you might think about trimming your body and going with a 35 or larger.

Chris

Again I agree with chris here on this one. if i were you id stick with the 31s. like he said if you want wider than get wider ones. What kind of off-roading are you looking at here anywase. Rocks, trailing, mud, etc...........

I need the tallest tire possible for the approach angle on the front. There also has been a few times when I have used a short running start to climb a rock ledge when a similar truck climbs it at a crawl with 33's or 35's. Needless to say I cut a sidwall last weekend because I could not get on top of a ledge. 15 pounds air in front and 12 back. I tried and tried and finally ended up having to back up 3' and go at it, well I made it but with only three tires with air. The Jeep in front of me that made it in the first attempt was an open diff. Mine has a locker so I can only say the taller tires made the difference.
As for where mine rubs, it's in the upper front of the wheel well. I took a hammer to it as much as it would allow. Yes it does articulate very well. But it also eats tires at the same time.

sounds to me like you've got too little backspacing like 3 inches or you need to trim that "flare" off your front fender.

Actually it's not hitting the flair part. Just the inner fender well. Backspacing is propably my issue. Then I will most likely have to trim the fender.

It would push the tire further out (along with the wheel).

Rubbing

I understand. In anyones experience does it decrease the ammount to rub on the inner fender well?
Does the "rubbing" occur on the inside or outside of the tire?

If it happens on the outside, a spacer will make it rub even more. If on the inside it may or may not "push" the tire away from the spot where it rubs.

Thanks. The tire gets beet up about two inches in from the out side tread. It's hitting on the front of the wheel well on a full turn. Originaly it was hitting in the aft of the tire also until I modified the seam.
