Will a PCM from a 94 that has same size motor fit my 93?

I'm talking to someone who has a 94 ZJ they are parting. Their vehicle has a 4.0 same as I do in my 93 Laredo. I am having extended crank/starting issues where my fuel pump won't spin up right away. If we both don't have the factory security alarm will the PCM from that vehicle swap with mine?

Do I need to do more homework to match it up more closely and be sure?

Probably not these change every year and sometimes two or three times a year. Look at the numbers and see if they are the same. Call the dealer and see if they supersede to each other. A lot of PCM's are now are only available as a rebuilt and many need to be flashed with a DRB.

Yes they will.

93 & 94 had the same MPCM so they should work. Only in 95 did they change the torque conveter a little bit.

I called the dealership just to see what I could get out of them. They couldn't pin it down for sure against my VIN. Felt it could be one of two possible part numbers. Something about whether or not I have RFI suppression on the radio? I've never bought anything there so I don't know if they are trying to jack me or not. They certainly were nice enough and put me on hold about 10 times trying to answer me.

Man.. I didn't want to mess with it until I had parts in hand. I do not want to be stranded without wheels but I see there is no other way to know for sure unless I get in there and find the number.

Get one from a junkyard and try it. 99% sure it will work.
Nothing change from 93-94 except for the headrests in the rear and some had disk brakes in the rear.

93 PCM

93 4.0 w/ auto has 4 different pcm's they boil down to aisan/warner w/rfi and without. The Chrysler trans has two also with or with out rfi.
1994 has totally different oe part numbers.

Well it's out Part # 56029009

Sometimes you wonder why you do your own work. 2 trips to the autozone because I needed a deep socket 8mm to get the last bolt on the lower left. First trip netted me a 9mm socket on an 8mm card.

I take out the PCM because every picture I saw of the thing online had the part number stickers under the cover with the vents. But NOOOOO my sticker is outside on the top covered by dirt! Never needed to remove it. :banghead:

Local junkyard sux, you can't go get your own stuff anymore because of safety. And their price scheme begins with "well the dealer price for this new is..."

Your part number is for an aisan/warner transmission with out RFI.
This trans was used more in xj's than zj's.
It crosses to an R6027803 reman module.

Yeah, my ZJ is an early one. Did a lookup once, it left the dealer lot on 10/92

There are three dealers in Mass that show it in inventory. Midway in Framingham, Colonial Dodge in Hudson and Kelly in Lynnfield.

I think msrp was 481.00 with a core charge. You have the part number call a few dealerships. Chrysler , Dodge or Jeep they all can order it for you too.

Oh I been on that since I had those numbers. Was just curious what the price spread was. There's a half dozen within reach. I'll give it a bit and maybe save a few bucks, see if something compatible shows up here or elsewhere.

Cardone part #79-9009

Positive fix for extended cranking but not starting. I was able to proof the fuel pump by opening up the power distribution module and taking the cover off the fuel pump relay. Push the relay blade over carefully with a screwdriver to force it to make contact like it would if the PCM had fired it. I heard fuel pressurize the fuel rail so I knew my pump was good and now I felt as sure as I could be that replacing the computer was going to be the fix. Now after the swap my fuel pump does the one second burst instantly again the moment I turn the key to on.

Weird but when I took it out to go to the parts store to hand the core in up front I heard it making sort of a high pitched sound, I almost thought my blower motor in the hvac was spinning but then I realized the keys are in my pocket the vehicle isn't even on. The new one when I re-attached the battery cable almost sounded a little like a computer booting up. Soft little clicking sounds came from it.

What the hell is in these things?
