My 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L Laredo RPMs drop to zero while driving.

got a problem with my 96 zj 4.0 laredo. somtimes when im driving my rpms will drop to zero and it will coast for a while then my rpms will jump back up to about 2000 and then be fine but this happens at least once a day. Anyone know anything about this
