ORGS SuperNerf Installation

By Brett Helmreich

ORGS Super Nerf Installation

Tools needed: 90 degree drill motor. ½” drill bits, 5/16” drill bits, 3/8” drill bits, angle grinder with cut off wheel, pliers, paint pen, spring loaded awl thing and an air ratchet or

First read the ORGS instructions about 5 times with the parts laid out on the ground. Then set their instructions aside and use as a reference and use mine. Here is the bullet list of my process:

• Insert frame mounts into super nerf.
• Hold up into place on WJ.
• Using a paint pen (you MUST GET A PAINT PEN in my opinion. It makes it nice and easy) mark the pinch weld where the frame mounts are in a 2” notch
• Lower the rails and cut out the pinch weld. I used a cut off wheel on an air grinder to notch the pinch weld and cut it away, I suggest you do the same with air or electric. Be careful on how far up you go. I cut mine at the radius (or fillet) where the pinch weld curves to meet the rocker.
• Once the pinch welds are cut out of the way use some rust proofing paint or similar on the exposed metal. I roughed mine up with scotchbrite and steel wool.
• Hold ORGS in place. Be sure to locate the forward mount carefully, because at first I lined mine up to. Hold up to WJ with either a jack or two hi lifts or two friends AS HIGH AS YOU CAN GET THEM. Mark the two bottom holes of the frame mounts with paint pen. Mark the whole hole!
• Lower nerfs
• Now, I used one of those spring loaded awls to mark the center of my paint pen marks. Basically it gives the drill bit a little depression to start in so your hole is where you intend it to be. Drill the forwardmost hole of the forward frame mount first. After drilling the first hole check to make sure your second paint pen mark is still where you want it, and mark with the awl thing accordingly.
• After drilling all 4 of the lower holes of the frame mount legs line up the legs and use an air ratchet to fasten them to the frame with the self tappers.
• At this point you should only have just the legs mounted to the frame with the 2 bottom holes of each, 4 bolts total on this one side.
• Next use your air drill and drill the rest of the holes. I chose this method in order to use the upper frame mount bolt hole openings as my guide to drill the holes in the proper place. You will understand this too because of the angle you have to drill the holes. This is the only way to make sure you are precise.
• Using the air ratchet fasten the topmost holes of the frame mounts using the self tappers.
• Now slide the nerf onto the frame mounts. You may need to do some prybar work to line them up.
• Slide the nerf as close to the pinch weld as you can.
• Mark the holes for the pinch weld holes with that paint pen. The holes are in the nerf itself. I notched my holes with the cut off wheel after drilling and rustproofed.
• Push the nerf all the way to the pinch weld and bolt in through the pinch weld holes you just made
• Now drill the holes cross way into the frame mounts. It may help to pre drill the holes in the nerfs while they are more easily accessible off the vehicle at some point. They come pre drilled with small holes. This pre drilling will help you use those holes as guides again for when you need to drill through the frame mounts. Drill from both sides then drill all the way through to guarantee fitment of the through bolt.
• Done with side 1.

After I was done I tack welded the frame mounts to the nerfs for longevity and durability.

This is intended to supplement the ORGS instructions.  It is definitely a lot easier using my method!!

P.S. I go by Tron on the forums…
