"Hard Rocker" Installation Instructions
Tool Requirements
1. Phillips screw driver.
2. Slotted screw driver.
3. Pliers.
4. Electric drill.
5. ¼" drill bit.
6. ¼"-20 tap or 9/32" drill bit.
7. 3/16" Allan wrench.
8. 7/16" socket with ratchet or wrench.
Installation Procedures (omit steps 1through 4 for Limited or Orvis models)
1.Remove the four plastic pins holding the rocker panel cover on by pulling down on them. A little pin pops down then the whole pin comes out
2.Remove the two screws in the front and back of the rocker panel cover. Removing the rear tire and turning the front tire will help to get a screw driver in to remove these screws.
3.Remove the two pieces of the cover and set a side.
4.It's a good idea to clean the area that was under the covers.
5.Make a vertical pencil mark on the pinch weld near the rear tire 5/8" in from the end of the pinch weld towards the front of the vehicle.
6.Locate the end of the hole template with the first hole 5/8" from the end.
7.Align this end of the hole template with the mark on the pinch weld.
8.Push the hole template up against the bottom of the rocker panel snugly.
9.Put one c-clamp at the back of the hole template.
10.Put the second c-clamp in the center of the hole template.
11.Put the third c-clamp in the front of the hole template.
12.Note: The hole template may require some force to get it up against the bottom of the rocker panel. The c-clamp will hold the hole template in place once it is clamped. Don't try to force the hole template too tight up against the bottom of the rocker panel. This will cause the holes to be too high up on the pinch weld. Make sure it is flat against the oinch weld.
13.Drill the eleven ¼" holes through the pinch weld. Be careful not to hit the rocker panel with the electric drill.
14.Remove the hole template.
15.Reinstall the plastic rocker panel cover. (omit this step for Limited or Orvis models)
16.Hold the "Hard Rocker in position. A floor jack works well or two people is even better.
17.Install the ten ¼"-20 hex head bolts a long the pinch weld. Just put these in loose for now.
18.Install the special ¼"-20 socket head cap screw in the second hole from the rear.
19.Note: It maybe necessary to use a floor jack to make the holes line up by jacking up on the "Hard Rocker" If any of the holes still don't line up either run a ¼"-20 tap through the hole or make the hole in the pinch weld slightly larger with a 9/32" drill bit.
20.Tighten all the bolts up now. Go over them a few times to give them all the same torque.
21.Repeat steps one through twenty on the other side.
22.Your now ready for some serious off-road driving without damaging your rocker panels.
