Had a coolant leak, replaced the pump with a new factory unit. Now it leaks again, same general area but not the brand new pump. Anything else thereabouts that could be the culprit?

Whodat,
Is it spewing or just a little dribble? When I replaced the waterpump on my 4.0, I went with the flowkooler unit, but I noticed that for the first couple of days after the install the waterpump was leaking a little bit at the "weep hole." I've never heard a better term for the little hole, but its just below the pulley at the bottom of the pump to allow water to escape. After going back and rereading the instructions, it said that a little leaking was common during the first couple of days due to the bearings getting seated and sealing correctly. I don't know, but I would assume that this would also apply to oem units. Just keep an eye on your coolant level (it will probably be dropping a bit any way due to air bubbles) and you should be fine. HTH Hank |

Right between a seep and spew. I lose enough in a day to bring my low coolant warning on. Definitely not normal weepage.

Well dang man...
You have the 5.2 right? Is it running down your hoses or dripping from someplace? Anything else I can think of would just be a shot in the dark, but I've got a buddy who's the local jeep tech. If I see him today, I'll try to pick his brain a little. Good Luck. Hank |

get a coolant pressure tester. pressurize the system with the engine off the leak area will be obvious.

i agree w/ kid. they are awesome devices... really makes installing/replacing hoses easy b/c you don't have to overtighten the clamps.... just install, pressure system, and tighten clamps til they stop leaking.

if there is nothing coming from the intake manifold (My thermostat gasket started leaking before the pump went) ... the bypass hose that goes from the intake to the water pump. It is in a nasty spot. Mine has been replaced already when DC did the intake plenum gasket .. DC tech said it was just 'good insurance' since it is in an unfriendly area.

Could be the timing chain cover. Rare but happens...

Yup, stupid bypass hose. About $7, plus the $.65 the thermostat gasket cost. Had to remove the alternator, the ps pump, the belt, the idler pulley, the AC compressor, the throttle cable, the cruise cable, the upper coolant hose, and a couple other odds and ends. Took a couple hours. Seems much less bad now.
