I justed looked at the Dodge web site and the durango has a 61.90 track width. This would be perfect for me. Does anyone know if the 9.25 axle is a C-clip axle or not. Also, would anyone know why I would not want this axle. I was lloking at a 9" and needing to weld brackets any way. Thanks all.

The 9.25 is basically a big version of the 8.25. Threaded collars for backlash adjustment, C-clipped axle shafts, housing shape, etc. It does hang a bit down low, but you could probably hack a big chunk of the bottom of the dif. off and still be OK. They are notorious for having premature pinion bearing wear for some reason. Due to the threaded collars, you won't be removing the carrier on the trail(well, you can remove it, but getting it back together is a ***** even with the special tool), so if you happen to break anything and need to get the cross-shaft out of the carrier to get the c-clips out and the shafts, I would HIGHLY recommend grinding down the ring gear till the cross-shaft will slide out carrier in vehicle.

Mat, my mother-in-law has a durango and I was looking at the width and check the dodge web site and found it is 61.90" wide, 31spline and about 1.825 or something like that axle shaft diameter. when I was lookingv at hers it just looked so stout I wanted to check on it. Here everyone seems to be set on spline count and shaft size I thought it was up for the asking. Gears seem to available and lockers also. The part you said about hangin low is very true but shaving is an option. thanks

Truthfully, I don't know why people swap them out for 60s. Well, I do know, but for the price ie: cheap to free, they can't be beat. Hell, I've seen some 8.25s take serious abuse (what lead me to just spool mine), and a 9.25 is just that much stronger. If you adapt disk brakes to one, it could be a real diamond in the rough cost to benefit wise. The threaded collars make it almost a 2 person job to set the backlash (dad helped on my 8.25), but other than that, they seem pretty damn effective.
